Zhan and I sat with Marcella for about an hour, who had actually only asked me to come over because she thought Zhan was bothering me and I would need her help to get rid of him. She told me the same thing again while Zhan was sitting next to me pretending to cling to my arm. But I immediately made it clear that I definitely didn't want to get rid of Zhan. I'm happy that he's with me. I feel comfortable when he is around me.
Even though Zhan can't remember anything, he is still always happy, bright, playful, silly, naughty, childish and totally cute. Having him around reminds me to live and have fun sometimes too. Not always working and always being so serious. In the few days that Zhan has been with me, I have probably laughed, grinned and smiled more than I normally do in an entire year.
Of course, Zhan also has a serious side, as I have noticed several times now. It always comes out when he talks about the crimes that have taken place somewhere. Then I always notice how detailed his knowledge is about what happened during these violent crimes. Which makes me more and more interested in what his profession was.
When Zhan looked out the window and spotted a cat, he told me he'd be right back, disappeared through the wall, and shortly after squatted in front of the really confused cat, which was apparently able to see him. I took this brief opportunity to ask Marcella what she knew about his condition, as the spirit of someone who was not dead.
"My knowledge of this is unfortunately limited only to the theory that is known in my circles. According to this, it is possible for some people to leave their bodies in the spirit state. Most of them do this unconsciously and cannot control it and it happens mostly when they are asleep. And they do not even know that it is happening to them. Many explained to have simply had the feeling of suddenly falling in their sleep. Scientists would now oppose this and say that it is merely a hypnagogia. So the organ of balance in the inner ear and the muscles. Or in other words, sleep paralysis." She began to explain.
"But that's not it? Hypnagogia, then?"
"No. In fact, it is said that these people unconsciously, and even if only for a very brief moment, leave their body as a spirit or soul and then abruptly and very quickly fall back into it. However, there are said to be people who are very skilled at this and know exactly that they are leaving their bodies. They can consciously step out of their body and watch themselves sleeping or walking around in the dream world. A medium who has this ability could also communicate with spirits in the light and shadow world. And as nice as it may sound to just leave your body and roam around, it's also dangerous."
"Why dangerous?"
"Well, you can get lost. It's been said that many times people with these abilities get lost somewhere and all that's left behind is their soulless bodies. They fall into a coma and no doctor can help them. Because they do not know why this person is in a coma. There remains a soulless shell, which any spirit can seize. For a while, the body protects itself from being taken over by a foreign spirit. But at some point the body becomes weaker and the spirits can get closer and closer to it. You can tell this when the spirit becomes more and more transparent, as in Zhan's case. That's a sign that his body is getting weaker. But also his spirit, his soul. And if he doesn't return to his body soon, Zhan's soul will disappear. The soul, I prefer to call it that, will dissolve and all that will be left of him is his weak Soulless Body, which can now be invaded by any spirit that wants to."
"And you think Zhan might be such a dream wanderer?"
"I don't know. Maybe. But since he lost his memory, it could also be that he had an accident, for example. Or something else happened and his soul was thrown out of his body. I don't think he left his body voluntarily."
"How much time do you think he has left?"
"At his current condition?"
"Mn."
