Chapter 20 - Typical Zhan

A/N: The following is a summary of what happened after Zhan woke up. So don't be surprised. Except for the end of the chapter, where you can be surprised.

We informed Zhan's doctor that Zhan had woken up. He came accompanied by the American doctor. The two of them explained that this piece of glass, not quite a centimeter in size, probably caused Zhan to be in a coma and not wake up. And for some reason, it must have suddenly pressed on a part of Zhan's brain that caused his poor vital signs. But through this, the problem was finally found.

The doctors assumed that the piece of glass entered Zhan's head wound at that time, when Shuang made the attack on his family. That no one had noticed it before was surprising. Moreover, it was even more amazing that Zhan survived it at all.

However, the whole recovery process will take a while, the doctors told us right away. Zhan's movement abilities are still severely limited and he will soon be taken to a rehab clinic where he will have to exercise every day. He said it is important now to work on his muscle development and to train movement skills.

The American doctor said that because of the good physical therapy Zhan received, it should take perhaps no more than 2 to 3 months before he can already walk reasonably well on his own and dress, wash and generally care for himself without assistance. This is good news! Especially because the rehab center is close to my apartment and Zhan can then stay with me and not have to stay at the rehab center.

Since Zhan has to slowly get used to eating and drinking again and he still has great difficulty swallowing, he was only allowed to lick ice cubes and drink lukewarm vegetable broth for the time being. But these helped him and he was soon able to speak better. He was still very hoarse, but speaking was no longer so painful.

Although Zhan still needs a lot of rest to recover a little and also because his operation was only three days ago, rest did not return until the evening. Yanli and Cheng told Zhan everything that had happened to them in the past two years, who had come to visit Zhan, and what their future plans were. Zhan mostly just listened, nodding or shaking his head. He was tired, but didn't admit it.

When I was alone with him in his room, he was finally ready to rest. I made his bed again, washed him and covered him up and then he asked me in that husky voice if I could lie down with him and hold him in my arms. I told him that I would love to do that.

So I crawled into bed with him, lay down next to him and wrapped him in my arms. He put his hand on my chest and asked me, "Yibo? Do you like me?"

"Yes, of course. Why do you think I'm here with you?" I replied.

"I don't mean friendship Yibo."

"Neither do I." I said. He raised his head a little and tried to look me in the eyes. Probably he wanted to know if I meant what I said. So I lowered my head, looked him in the eyes and explained, "Zhan, I'm only here because of you. I'm here because I want to be with you. Because I don't just like you. I, well, I fell in love with you."

Zhan smiled sweetly and replied, "Good, I'm in love with you too. And Yibo? We're alone now. You can kiss me too if you want." At that moment, my heart was beating almost up to my throat.

"Of course I want to. But I wanted to wait until we were alone and make sure you wanted it too." Zhan nodded in response. I put my hand on his cheek, lowered my head further and further, and finally I kissed him. This was our first kiss! And it was incredibly great!

Afterwards Zhan looked at me like the happiest person in the world. He closed his eyes and fell asleep. That night I held him in my arms and for the first time in a long time I didn't have a nightmare. I slept peacefully and had a beautiful dream about Zhan and me.
