Chase knocked on Maddie’s door, hearing Jasey meow quietly and footsteps. “Come here girl.” The door opened and Maddie stood there, one hand on the doorknob the other holding Jasey who was licking her hand. Chase stood there with Parker on his leash.
“Can I come in?” He asked, Maddie eyeing him before stepping back and letting him in. She closed the door, setting Jasey on the floor as Chase let Parker out of his leash and hung it on the coat rack.
“Are you still mad?” Chase asked.
“I’m not mad, I’m annoyed.” Maddie answered, walking to the living room where Jasey and Parker were snuggled in her bed.
“About?” Chase asked.
“Are we really going to talk about this?” Maddie turned back to him and glared at him.
“Would you rather we drop it and act like it never happened?” Chase suggested.
“I would rather sit and watch my movie.” Maddie huffed, walking to the couch. She plopped down, Chase sitting next to her, looking at the TV as a horror movie played. He rested his arm on Maddie’s shoulders, Maddie glancing at it before she looked back at the TV.
An hour later, she was on his lap, Chase’s arm around her body as she softly rubbed his arm and they both paid no attention to the movie.
“I’m sorry about yesterday.” Chase whispered.
“It’s fine.” Maddie shrugged. “I’m just annoyed on how they can’t mind their business.”
“They do have a point, I need to find someone to marry so it’s certain that I have someone to pass the building to.” Maddie lifted her head, looking at Chase and hummed.
“You need a baby.” She leaned closer.
“We can always try…” He was about to close the gap between their lips when Maddie move back and smiled.
“Adoption is an option.” Chase smiled and pulled her closer, kissing her.
“No kids?” He asked, pulling back.
“Maybe in the future.” Maddie whispered.
“Are you saying that we’re officially going to get married?” Chase grinned.
“Slow your role,” Maddie smiled. “I never said that.”
“But you implied it since you said someday.” Chase laughed.
“Yeah, someday doesn’t mean with you.” Maddie rolled her eyes. Chase sighed and shook his head. “Anyway, it’s late and you should be heading home.” Maddie looked at the TV, a woman screamed before the killer stabbed her.
“Can I stay the night?” Chase asked.
“I don’t know, can you?” Maddie mocked and Chase sighed, gently pushing her off and walked to the front door. Maddie watched as he walked out and she waited for a bit before she laid down and watched the movie. The front door opened and Maddie looked to see Chase walk in with a duffle bag, his briefcase and a hanger with a clean suit.
“You didn’t.” Maddie gawked and Chase grinned, setting his duffle bag down and hung the suit on the curtain rod in the dining room.
“I did.” He walked over to the couch, lifting Maddie’s legs with one hand and sitting down, setting them across his lap. He opened his briefcase over her legs, taking his laptop out and some files. Maddie watched as he worked and she rolled her eyes, looking back at the TV.
Chase began working, going file by file and typing on his laptop. He blocked out the screams from the movie and the suspenseful music. He briefly looked up, seeing Maddie switch to another movie. There was a woman, holding a butcher knife and heading to the sliding doors. She moved the curtain a little but pulled back when she heard a scrape. Chase had his eyes glued on the lady as she took a breath and yanked the curtain open. Chase jumped at the sight of the masked man right outside. The woman screamed as the man banged on the window and suddenly the record player began playing, followed by someone banging on the front door.
