Chase rubbed his eyes, sitting on his desk chair while Parker was next to him, lying on the floor with his eyes closed. He went through the files on desk, going over bank statements and many other things. Parker rested next to him, fast asleep when he picked his head up and softly barked, walking out the door. Chase stayed quiet, hearing the doorbell ring had him stand up, thinking it was Ryland but was surprised to see Melissa when he opened the door.

"What happened?" Chase asked. Melissa smiled and shook her head.

"The files you did were wrong and you have the papers to fix them, so I came to drop them off. I need them tomorrow morning anyway." Chase nodded, quickly looking around as Melissa walked back to her car.

Chase closed his door, walking back to his office and finishing the paper work before he looked through the file. He took out the couple papers before finding the envelope and opening it, taking out the paper and reading.

Pig,

It was Melissa's idea, and yes, I agree it was very clever. I hate to admit it but I miss you too and I kinda wish you could come over and see me.

Your mother doesn't know when to give up, does she? I'm beginning to think she really does hate me so much. And your father is very much in it. He blames me for hitting you, even though that makes no sense. He threatened to have me thrown in jail if I so much as talk to you again, so, I gotta watch my back now. I don't even remember what happened, do you?

Yes I do have my ring, my brother kept it safe and now I wear it all the time.

By the way, do you know James Tanner? His wife is my roommate.

Maddie

Chase closed the letter, having mixed emotions about everything that he knew about.

He was happy that Maddie wore the engagement ring, but he was angry at Andrew for threatening Maddie. He tried remembering what happened but came up with nothing and he leaned back into his chair. Chase rubbed his face, standing up and heading to his room, the note in his hand.

He laid on the bed, re-reading the note before staring at the question in the end.

By the way, do you know James Tanner?

Chase thought for a bit before nodding to himself.

"Tanner is a-"

Chase stopped, thinking before smiling and sitting up, going to the home phone and ringing Melissa.

"Hello?"

"Sorry to bother you so late Melissa, but do me a favor a call in James Tanner. Tell him I need to schedule an appointment with him as soon as possible."

"Right away."

Chase hung up, going to desk and grabbing a clean paper, writing a simple letter to Maddie. He picked up his phone again and made another call.

"Chase, what a wonderful surprise that you called first! You know Olivia is here and she's helping me with the wedding preparations. Why don't you come over tomorrow and join us? After all, you have to help."

Chase stayed quiet before smiling. "That sound like a good plan. I'll be there immediately after work."

***

It's been a few days since Maddie got the second letter from Chase. She was confused on what it meant.

Maddie,

Wait.

She got the news that she would be getting released in a few hours and to pass the time, she spoke to Jackie more

"Any news on your husband?" Maddie asked.

"No. He never calls or anything. When we're home, I usually cook and he comes down and eats, gives me his thanks and goes back to his office."

Maddie frowned and Jackie giggled.

"It's alright though, when we do talk, it's sometimes pretty funny because he doesn't really know most things I talk about." Maddie smiled and Josh walked in.

"Maddie, a nurse will be here soon to help you. Mrs. Tanner, you have a guest."

Maddie turned to Jackie who smiled and nodded. She would get visitors occasionally, her parents or a few friends that would come in. Jackie's eyes widened as the man with brown eyes and dark hair stormed in and immediately went to her side, closing the curtain between them and Maddie.

Maddie raised her eyebrows, turning away and ignoring their arguing as a nurse walked in and carefully helped Maddie to the bathroom to change. When she walked out in a pair of sweats, some slip-on shoes and a t-shirt that her brother brought. She turned to see Jackie glaring at the man who was on the phone, giving orders and speaking in a monotone voice. Jackie looked over at Maddie and smiled.

"Nice shirt, I guess you'll be leaving?" Jackie asked.

"Looks like it." Maddie glanced over at James Tanner, he was looking between Jackie and her before looking back out the window. Maddie turned back to Jackie who lightly smiled and shrugged.

"He's not much of a talker, he also won't tell me how he found out I was here."

Maddie nodded, saying her finals goodbyes before leaving and seeing Josh waiting for her by the front desk. He signed her out, helping her out and to his car.

"Any news on him?" Josh asked on the drive home.

"Nothing since the last letter."

"What did it say?"

"Just to wait."
