Maddie's POV

I heard faint beeping and voices muttering words. There was some sort of fabric under my arms and I tried moving my fingers but I couldn't move them without feeling stiff. The beeping was getting louder, and the smell of medicine, doctor and hospital making me cringe causing whoever was holding my hand to tighten their hold a bit.

"You're okay, I'm here."

I could hear Josh talking, a female voice following his which I assumed was Esmeralda. I opened my eyes a bit, seeing bright light before closing them again and turning my head away. I took deep breathes, trying one more time and this time, blinking a few times to get used to the light.

"Hey Maddie," I looked over to see Josh smiling at me, his hand softly touching mine. Behind him, on the couch, was Esmeralda in a colorful maternity dress and Ryland next to her in casual clothes.

I looked back at Josh, seeing him in the T-shirt from earlier and his white coat with his hospital ID clipped on the front pocket.

"Why are you wearing that? What happened?" Josh frowned at my questions and stood up, checking the machine and fixing my IV cable.

"What's your last memory?" He asked.

I thought back and looked at my lap, seeing that the fabric under my arm was the hospital blanket. "I was at Andrew and Samantha's house. Samantha was boasting about the marriage and Chase asked me to-" I stopped talking, blinking a bit. "Where's Chase?" I turned to my brother and he looked over at Ryland and Esmeralda who looked nervous.

"Where is he?"

"Maddie, please. This isn't easy to say," I looked at my brother, he said those exact same words the doctor told me years ago with Trevor.

"Josh..."

"You need to relax, Maddie. We shouldn't have brought this up in the first place you can't be under stress right now."

"I need to see him where is he?" I yelled.

"You need to relax Madeline." I watched as he took a syringe, filling it with clear liquid and I huffed, laying back in bed. I knew that putting up a fight wasn't going to be worth it. In the end, I was gonna go back t sleep anyway. I stared at the wall, ignoring my brother as he filled the IV in my arm with the liquid and soon, my eyelids began to get heavy. I closed them, feeling sleep take over my body again.

When I came to again, I was alone in the room and the only sound was the quiet voices of the people on the TV. I sat up, feeling my arms and torso weak from not moving and I carefully swung my legs over the edge of the bed, my bare feet feeling the cold floor and I quietly hissed. I carefully stood up, bones cracking after being in the same position for so long. I walked to my phone, pressing the home key to find it off. I held the power button, the phone turning on for a couple seconds before dying. I sighed, taking the IV stand with me, and carefully walking to the door.

I had been disconnected from the machines and I felt relieved to be able to walk.

I opened the door, peaking out and walking out of the room. The floor was white and squared; a nurse was down the hall behind the front desk. I carefully walked out, feeling like at any moment my legs were gonna give out from under me.

I was a few feet away when the nurse turned to grab a pen when she noticed me.

"You shouldn't have walked like that!" She rushed over to me and I lifted my other hand to stop her.

"I needed to walk, I'm sorry." The nurse nodded and returned to the desk, grabbing the phone. "Please, before you call anyone, I need t know something."
