Melissa looked around as she got out of her car, walking into the apartment building and going up the stairs. She reached the last floor, knocking and waiting for someone to open before she heard a yawn and Josh opened.

Melissa looked down briefly, suddenly feeling unsure that she looked good in her black slacks, her light blue buttoned down shirt and her black blazer over her clothes. She looked down at her black heels that gave her three extra inches of height and she pushed a piece of blonde hair back.

Josh cleared his throat, suddenly regretting the fact that he didn't change out of his grey sweats and loose black sweater. She looked down at his bare feet and looked back at Melissa who was looking just as nervous.

"I'm sorry, I'm looking for Maddie, is she here?"

"No, she's still in the hospital, she's still recovering from her injury. You are?" Josh asked.

"Oh, uh, I'm Melissa, Mr. Simmons' secretary. I'm here to deliver a letter from him, and to pick up a letter if she would like to return one." Josh nodded and looked at the letter that Melissa had taken out of her bag.

"I'm going to see her in a few hours, I can take it to her." Josh suggested.

"I would personally like to give it to her if you don't mind." Josh nodded and looked at the ground before pointing behind him with his thumb.

"Well, we could go together, I would just have to get changed." Melissa looked behind him quickly before nodding and stepped in when Josh stepped aside. He closed the door behind her and lead her to the couch, Melissa sitting.

"So, would you like something to drink, Melissa?" Josh asked.

"Oh, no thank you." She gave him a small smile and he returned it. Josh excused himself to change and walked into his room, shutting the door behind him before looking around him.

"I need to calm down." He whispered.

He thought back to last time he had talked to a girl who made him feel nervous. He froze as he realized it had been far too long. He changed into a pair of dark jeans and his grey running shoes, keeping the loose grey sweater and just spraying a bit of his cologne and grabbing his white coat and ID. I walked out, seeing Melissa still sitting on the couch and looking around the room as her phone was in her hand, lighting up with messages that she ignored.

"Ready?" Josh asked.

Melissa looked up at him and nodded, standing up and smiled at him as he let her go out the front door first. He followed behind, opening the passenger door for her. He got in at his side and saw as she ignored more texts.

"Are you sure it's fine that you ignore those?" He asked, starting the car and pulling out of the parking spot.

"Yeah, it's not like he's going to answer right away anyway." Melissa shrugged. Josh nodded, getting the feeling she was taking about a boyfriend or husband.

"It's my cousin by the way. He's staying at my house for a week while he's visiting from Washington." Josh looked over and smiled, feeling relieved.

The drive was quiet, occasionally a soft bing from Melissa's phone or Josh's mumbles at a few taxi drivers.

Once at the hospital, Josh pulled on his white coat and clipped his ID, heading in and signing in. He lead Melissa over to Maddie's room and peeked in, seeing her laying there along with another girl around their age as well.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Josh asked.

"I could be better." Maddie shrugged, turning away from the TV and looking at him and then at Melissa. "Oh, hey." She sat up as Melissa walked in and smiled, sitting next to her.

"Hey, I have something for you." Maddie watched as she placed her bag on her lap, looking in it and taking out the letter.

"Chase sends it." Maddie nodded and she hurriedly opened it.

Maddie,

I have to say, pretending you're Mrs. Connor is rather a good idea. Was it yours or Melissa's? You've been out for a while now and I miss having you in my arms. I hope you're fine and honestly I would go right over if I could. My mother seems to have it set along with my father to keep an eye on me and make sure I don't get anywhere near you. I know Ryland and Esmeralda keep checking on you too, but seeing as my parents know them, it would be easier to send letters with Melissa.

I'm sorry to say that the marriage it still happening no matter how many times I refuse to go along with it. I'm being forced into it and I really would just rather leave this place. With you of course. My office calls go straight to security, and they send off my calls. I feel like I'm 16 all over again.

Speaking of which, honey, do you still have your ring?

-Chase.

Maddie smiled at the letter, briefly looking at the engagement ring and looked over at Melissa who had a file folder and a pen.

"I'm to return a letter if you want to write one." Maddie nodded and took the file and pen, pulling the table over to her and starting to write as Josh checked her heart monitor and reminded her to eat.

Maddie watched as he walked out and Melissa followed, giving her some time and Maddie continued writing.

"Good news?"

She turned to the girl next to her, nodded and the girl smiled. "That's good." Maddie stayed quiet, writing the note before stopping and looking at the girl again.

"What are you in for?"

The girl had a pastel violet hair, looking out the window and turned to Maddie. "I tripped and fell a flight of stairs, got my leg broken." The girl pointed at her leg and turned to Maddie. "You?"

"Hit to the head, was in a small coma." The girl winced and nodded in understanding. "Letter to your boyfriend?"

"Fiancé." Maddie looked at the paper and back at the girl.

"Why doesn't he visit?"

"Long story." Maddie sighed and the girl nodded. "You have one?"

"Yeah, a husband." The girl nodded.

"Is he going to visit?" The girl was quiet before shaking her head and smiling.

"No, he wouldn't care anyway. He's always busy with work."

"Is it a tough job?"

"He was able to get my father's company after we both agreed to an arranged marriage. So, my family is rich as ever and so is his."

"What's his name?" Maddie asked, thinking that maybe Chase knew him.

"James Tanner."

"I'm Madeline Hender."

"Jacqueline Tanner, but Jackie is good." Maddie smiled and went back to writing the letter, folding it and beckoning Melissa back as she sat outside.

Thank you." Melissa nodded and put the letter and pen away before frowning.

"Maddie?"

Maddie watched as Melissa was quiet before she spoke up again.

"Is your brother seeing anyone?" Maddie raised her eyebrows before shaking her head. Melissa nodded and turned away, saying goodbye and left.
