One thing about my grandma, she insisted her gardens be PERFECT; not a flower out of place, not an imperfection to be seen... it was actually quite creepy, the waterfalls trickling in the background, the sound of birds chirping, bees buzzing. Call me a pessimist but I felt like this perfection was flawed, like she was trying so hard to hide the dark deeds of this family through beauty; it was unnatural. I looked at my stepmom, Lilah.... another example of perfection, she was a beautiful woman and that couldn't be denied but there was something about her... a coldness that seemed almost.... I watched as she walked over to one of the flowers and smelled it, she was trying way too hard and I was starting to see flaws in this particular diamond. I'll be honest, she was never cruel to me... in fact, she was always super nice, but I couldn't get past the undeniable fact that my dad was having an affair with her while my mother was still alive; that would never sit right with me. Finally, we reached the edge of the garden and she sat on a bench next to a koi pond, she patted the seat next to her and I rolled my eyes before sitting down...... whatever she wanted to talk about I'm sure it was going to piss me off, which in turn would make me want to fuck up this family dinner.
"I've been talking with your father...." Lilah started and I chuckled loudly.
"I would expect you to talk to the man you're married to.... I mean it's not like y'all haven't BEEN talking, y'all were talking while my mother was still alive." I said and I could see that my words stung, good.... "What exactly were y'all talking about?" I asked letting out a low sigh.
"You.... I feel like he's too hard on you, he's traditional but I'm trying to show him that there's nothing wrong with being.... who you love." Lilah said nervously.
"Gay, the word is gay.... maybe I'm bi but I haven't had the desire to mess around with women yet, though I'm open to it. But I have to ask you something... if there's nothing wrong with it, then why are you having such a hard time saying the word?" I asked and again she looked stung by my words.
"I... I didn't want to mislabel you, but now I know and I'll try to do better." Lilah said quietly. "I've been trying to teach your father that there's nothing wrong with you being gay and that maybe he's too hard on you... I've convinced him to make you Ambassador to Oleria, you'll be working closely with DeVier, you'll have your own apartment in the capital city of Oleria and the job pays extremely well.... if you want it." Lilah said and I'm not going to lie, it was extremely tempting.
"I really wanna finish school.... I don't want to be handed anything I haven't earned and DeVier isn't the king yet so I wouldn't be working with him." I said and Lilah smiled.
"He'll be the king very soon and the position will be yours if and when you want it, we have a good enough relationship with them that we could go a few months without an ambassador... Just think on it." She said leaning forward and kissing me on the cheek, she got up and started heading back towards the palace leaving me to my thoughts.
"Reject the offer..." Jy'Ayir said hopping over some bushes. "You and DeVier wouldn't get any work done because y'all would be too busy fuckin..." He said sitting next to me, now Jy'Ayir claims he doesn't have any powers but he had the uncanny ability to sneak into any building undetected no matter how tight the security was, magical or otherwise... he claims it's good luck but I didn't believe so...
"You know me and DeVier do more than fuck... it's just we go so long without seeing each other that we gotta make up for lost time and you seem to always catch us right when we're about to start or we're just finishing." I said smirking. "You staying for dinner? You know I could use some backup for the 'everything is Gemini's fault' game I know my father is ready to play." I asked and Jy'Ayir shook his head.
"Nah I just came to tell you about this party...." He said pulling out this piece of paper that was blank until the light hit it a certain way, the only thing on the paper was a time and date, the location was TBD but I trusted Jy'Ayir. " It's in America which basically means that I'll be coming with you to America so tell your housekeepers to make sure my room is ready, and I can't wait to meet this dude you've been talking to...." Jy'Ayir said smiling and I was about to tell him about Uzi's brothers but I was cut off by the sound of a trumpet blaring in the distance. "See you later...." Jy'Ayir said looking around and darting off in the opposite direction from which he came.
