Prims POV

It really is shocking, to hear that Levia is my cousin and everything. I think the person who is the most surprised is my mother and Sali.

"I remember Levia well. I tutored her at school when she left. Everyone said she died." He tells us. Turns out Levia hated school and studying, and would stare out the window all day and quietly sing to herself. As we all slowly take this new information in, Peeta gasps and tenses up immediately. Katniss and Levia are still sitting on the ground. There's nothing there.

"Wow, Peeta. Thanks for scaring me." I say. Then I hear a strange, screechy noise. It's Levia's scream. It's a thick, low, throaty sound that is a mixture of a scream and cough and sneeze or something, I really don't know. I can tell she is an Avox right away. Katniss's scream sounds much more normal. Reassuring, almost. I frantically ask everyone around me why Levia screamed. Why Katniss screamed. Why are they running away? No one answers, everyone is just in their own trance. Then I see my answer.

Katniss POV
As the sound grows louder, I realize it's more of a growly purr than a buzzing sound. I don't know where it's coming from, which is strange, because I have exceptional hearing from the years of practice in the woods. It's Levia's shriek that makes me see. It's another beast, but unlike the large blue one that killed Cato. It seemed like ages ago. And then I figure out, that it's not just one beast, but there are many of them surrounding us. I have never seen them before, yet they look...normal... They are like tigers, but with sleek golden fur and large, fluffy hair around their heads. They move slowly and regally, as if they were the king of the arena. The real victors. I know better than to stand frozen in place like I did before, and I plan on making Levia's life as long as possible.

"Levia," I whisper, not wanting to trigger an unwanted attack from the creatures. "Let's slowly back towards that tree and climb it, okay?" The second I lift my foot, the creatures come barreling away at us. There are about five of them charging for Levia and I. I grab her hand and run to the closest, sturdiest tree.

"Climb!!" I screech, pushing Levia up a branch. My cousin desperately scrambles up, and the creatures are getting closer. I haven't even been able to get ten feet high yet. After all the years Levia has spent in the Capitol, slave or not, she isn't agile and quick enough to gracefully scale the trees. I urge her, and finally, when there are two branches on both sides of the thick, reddish trunk, I jump onto it and climb up. She struggles a bit, but catches up to me. We are about twenty feet high now, and the beasts are circling the base of the tree, as if they were planning what to do next. The beasts are long in height, and if they stood and leaped, they could reach us. Unfortunately, I don't think Levia is able to climb anymore. Although she lived her life as an Avox, she lived a life of luxury compared to my starving, freezing winter nights. She isn't built for exertion and especially these horrific Games. I know I shouldn't, but I encourage her and push her to go on, to at least go a yard or two higher. The lions have already begun to jump.

"Come on, Levia. You can do this, it's only a few feet higher." We are going to have to climb more than a few feet but I don't have the heart to tell her this now. She extends her light-skinned arm and grasps the thin branch above her, the breeze flowing through her long hair. Her other arm hugs the trunk as she quivers in fear. Then she pushes up on her feet and balances onto the next branch.

"Good job! How about I lead the way and you follow exactly what I do?" She nods slightly and I take the lead, even though I was in front of her in the first place. I know all the tricks there is to about climbing trees, where to put your hands and feet, where the weakest and strongest parts of the branch are. I make a good five, ten yards before I realize Levia is still way down below. The beasts, are obviously getting angry and frustrated. Deep growls rumble from the backs of their throats, and they claw the base of the tree trunk abrasively. Levia tries hard to catch up to me. Because I'm so experienced I know right away that Levia is climbing incorrectly and one wrong move will send her plummeting to her death. I know I should climb back down to retrieve her, but a little voice in my mind is telling me to leave her, not to risk my life for her. After all, I don't really know her. The last time I saw her was when I was six. And then, as the selfish feeling sinks to the bottom of my chest, Levia sinks to the bottom of the ground.
