We put the plates into the sink while we talk.
Nat cooked a delicious meal that we just ate while the light of a bunch of candles lit the room and made a romantic atmosphere. It was wonderful and I hope I won't ever forget this night.

It's the first New Years eve we spend alone. In our now third year of dating, we always spend it with the rest of the Avengers in the compound.
But a few month ago we finally decided to move in together. It was a long process because of all the safety issues we had to take care of. We also didn't want S.H.I.E.L.D. or Tony to pay for our apartment. We wanted to be independent and free.

It took us quite a while to find an apartment that fits. It's not too expensive and also not too small, it's the perfect space for two people.
We couldn't stop Tony from getting a bit work done here and there but we did stop him from paying our rent or buying the apartment or the whole building.

He put in bulletproof windows that were darkened from the outside so you can't see inside, he put up a camera at the entrance so we can always check who comes to visit us. The walls were thickened with some material, that's not to thick and also sound- and bulletproof.

As if someone would dare to attack the Black Widow.

We have an extra room with all her stuff that she needs for missions, like her suits and weapons. It only opens with her fingerprint and not mine, so no one could take me hostage and force me to open it. It's a lot but if that's what it takes for us to be free from the others and live here instead of the compound, it's alright.

We finished unpacking and putting up all the furniture two weeks ago and are now happy and exhausted from the process.
But we're more than glad to have a New Years eve without Thor's and Loki's fighting, Bruce's constant complains, Steve's and Bucky's over excitement over the fireworks and Tony's bragging about which new fireworks he designed that also could be deadly if it got into the wrong hands. It's way calmer when its just Nat and me.

We walk over to our living room and cuddle up on the couch.
While eating we decided on a movie we wanted to watch. It's an old Disney movie, they bring both of us comfort und we enjoy them very much.

I cuddle into her arms and lean my head against her shoulder while she puts on the movie.
Her other arm lays loosely around me and her hand on my hips.
She pulls me a little closer to her as the movie starts and presses a small kiss in my hair. I smile and just enjoy the moment.

She's only this cuddly and loving and sweet when we're alone. It's not like she rejects me in public, it's more the fact that these little acts of affection are only for private moments, which makes me cherish them even more.

She has a hard time to openly show her feelings towards me in front of everyone and it would also raise more attention than it does anyway. We do hold hands in public and kiss sometimes, so of course the press knows about us, which worried her a lot in the beginning but by now it has cooled of. But she is still careful because she wants to protect me from her enemies.

Her hand brushes lovingly through my hair while her other hand lazily strokes my arms. I trust her completely and feel so safe around her. She is my home, my everything, the love of my life.

We watch the movie, not without watching the clock.
The movie ends almost perfectly, 40 minutes before midnight. I changed my position while watching and my head is now laying in her lap and I'm turned around to the TV.
As the end credits come onto the screen, I turn to lay on my back again and watch her, switch off the TV.

I smile at her calm, happy state because I love seeing her relaxed and without any work and stress. Our eyes meet and y/e/c and green eyes clash together and I feel like her whole soul is visible in her look.
She bends down and gives me a quick kiss on the nose. I wait for her to kiss my lips but a smug look comes to her face as she watches me. So I get up, straddle her and kiss her gently. She kisses back as gentle as I am and I place my arms around her shoulders while hers are around my waist. We stay like this for a few minutes, not kissing all the time but resting our foreheads together and gazing into each other's eyes.

We slowly pull away. I get down from her, quickly going into the bathroom before we go outside. Our balcony is small but fits two people perfectly. I step out to look at our view. It's nothing spectacular, just some street in New York City, but I can't see Nat.

"Tasha?" I ask into the apartment.
A few seconds later she comes out of the kitchen, holding two glasses of wine which she puts down on our small table on the balcony.

"Look up." She says and grins at me.
"It's a mistletoe", I answer and start smiling.
"I mean, we can't ignore a tradition, right?"
I nod and she pulls me closer again, cupping my cheeks and kissing me lovingly. I return the kiss with the same amount of love.

We step out and watch the dark sky. She checks her watch and nods, holding it for me so I can read it. There's only one minute left until midnight.
As we watch the countdown, we get closer and just as the first fireworks go off, we kiss, right through both years.
It feels so good having her by my side and sharing this beautiful moment.
Our kiss lasts a little longer until we slowly separate.

"Happy new year, my love" she whispers.
"Happy new year, babe" I answer and together we turn around to watch the sky getting lit by hundreds of fireworks. They light up the sky and paint wonderful sparkles over it.

I catch a glimpse of her eyes and see the amazement in them and how they mirror the lights. She looks truly happy and it fills my heart with love, seeing her like this.
Her eyes catch me but she doesn't say anything, she just smiles.

This moment is just perfect, the fireworks, the wonderful evening and having her by my side. I will treasure this moment forever and I think I never had a better start into the new year.
We take our glasses of wine, raise them and cling them together.
"To a new year", she says.
"Full of new memories and love", I add and we both take a sip.

We turn around to watch the beautiful fireworks again, slowly drinking our wine and just living and enjoying the moment.
As I put my empty glass next to hers, she gently pulls me into a hug and I burry my face in her neck, smelling her shampoo. It's a mix out of coconut and peach. I love that smell because it makes me feel safe and at home, because she is my home, my whole heart and the love of my life. I don't want to spend any day without being able to call her mine.

Normally I don't believe in fate but in this exact moment, her arms around me, her smell in my nose, her body against mine and the feeling of being where I'm supposed to, makes me believe that maybe it's fate that brought us together. And I'm looking forward to all of the following years that we'll welcome together.
