He's been gone for 8 hours now, not even present for dinner.. this was so unalike him...

The soup laid there in the bowl, making the bread next to it look rather unnecessary. It'll be left on the counter for him when he returns.. I'll be sure of it..

He went to get a shave he told me... at Mr. Todd's just above Mrs. Lovett's.. such a sweet woman, keeps around a rather sweet boy named Toby as well.

It's getting late, it's worrying me that my husband has yet to come home.. perhaps I should go over to Lovett's and check..

(This whole husband thingy is disgusting to me, but we're all going to hang in there.)

I wasn't worried about him.. I was worried about the consequences of him being missing.. they'd torment me for losing a husband, not being able to keep a man.. driving him mad enough to escape.

A few more minutes passed before I couldn't take it any longer. The door closed behind me as I went out in the cold rainy street, the breeze making my skin cold against the wind.

It was fairly empty outside today, only a few carriages swooshing by. The sign of Mrs. Lovett's pie shop hung high on the building, the lights from inside appearing to still be on.

Well.. here goes nothing..

The bell of the door rang as I entered the building. There stood Mrs. Lovett, hands on the workbench. This idea suddenly didn't seem so smart anymore, but I needed to present my worry somehow.

There was a knife on her left, and a rolling pin on her right, flour covering most of the surface. Her eyes met with mine as she looked up, a surprised look creeping up on her face.

"Mrs. Dalloway, w-what a surprise, what brings you here luv?"

She appeared to be slightly nervous, poor woman, must be working day in and day out to keep this business going. Her corset seemed far to tight for this kind of work, my husband had googled his eyes on her several times before..

I must admit that she was a sight for sore eyes, a proper working lady, there are only a fine few of those in this society. Though of course.. we must leave something for the men to stare at...

"Just came to ask if you've seen Mr. Dalloway, Harold, I'm getting a tad bit worried about him."

As soon as the mention of my husbands name came up, her eyes flew from mine and onto the kitchen counter. She dusted her hands off as she turned around and grabbed a bottle of some liquid.

"You needn't worry dear, he left to go to the market, they have a barber show there every Thursday and Mr. T insisted in showing him the show, they should be back soon."

She still stood with her back facing me, reading the labels on a few bottles, letting out a relieved 'Ah' as she found the one she was looking for. A clear bottle of what I could see was gin was held in her hand when she turned back around.

"Oh don't just stand there dear, take a seat.. I'll keep yah company til' he comes back."

She didn't give me much of a choice before she took out a glass and placed it on the table. The clear liquid filled the glass quickly and I found myself sitting down without thinking.
