A whole new character!

Just gonna mention that I'm currently watching the film and will begin writing as soon as I've got some sense of who she is and what she does.

(This follows the film as well as the dialogue)

Let's do this!

For decades women had peacefully campaigned for equality and the right to vote. Their arguments were ignored. In response, Emmeline Pankhurst, leader of the Suffragette movement, called for a national campaign of civil disobedience.

A single group of women joined the fight.

At the pharmacy, that's where I first met Edith (New) Ellyn. A rather short woman she was, but no less powerful for that, no no, for it took great skill to work in a pharmacy.. well, as much skill as our country let us have.

I was walking around the shop, looking for cough medicine when I heard it.

"Are you a suffragette, Mrs Ellyn?"

There wasn't any stiffness in her reply to the other woman - I honestly hadn't been paying much attention before this point.

"Yes." She answered. "But I consider myself more of a soldier, Mrs Watts."

They kept discussing the news about the women's testimonies that were gonna be sent and represented soon. How it's deeds, not words, that'll get us the vote, regardless of the testimonies.

A gentleman entered the shop, causing silence to erupt, but just as he had walked to the counter, Mrs Ellyn had already put up a bottle in the counter. 'A combination' she called it, then the man was off again.

I hadn't noticed, but the other woman - assuming Mrs Watts - had a small boy with her. Edith spoke up again.

"Now George, do you like barley sugar?"

The kid - George - kindly took a few wrappers from the jar he got offered, but just as Mrs Watts and her kid were about to leave, another woman came in.

"Afternoon, are the others here yet?"

Edith shook her head.

"Uh, no. Not yet, but you can go through."

A single nod was given by the newly arrived woman, but the silence grew quickly between Mrs Watts and Mrs Ellyn. After a few seconds, Edith began to explain the medicine for the boy.

"Plenty of steam. Couple of drops in the water, twice daily." She gave the pack to Mrs Watts then proceeded with "Keep him warm."

As the mother began reaching for her pockets, Edith kindly rejected the pay.

"No no, no charge."

The other woman gave a shocked thank you before setting for the door, and out of the shop she went.

Testimonies were given, but what I didn't know was that a woman such as I would have the courage to speak. At first, I was only meant to listen, then when the woman who originally went to preform arrived... all bruised up and shivering, I had to do something.

I gave my testimony, no rehearsal, no text, just pure recalling of how it was to be a simple woman in society. Mr. Lloyd George seemed to take every single word I said into consideration, which could be both bad and good.

As days passed, news spread. I had not yet gotten a beating or a form of punishment for my testimony, but what I did get, was an invite for tea by Mrs (New) Ellyn herself.
