The smell of newly painted walls fill the room densely. I stare at my work for a moment as i take in the beautiful baby blue hues. In the dead silence Shane creeps up from behind me and pulls me into a bear hug.

"Looks great" he chimes planting a kiss on my forehead. "Looked at the calendar. 6 months sober today."

He gives me a heartwarming smile. The smile that i never get to see often yet it comforts me more than you could ever imagine

"I'm proud of you." I whisper into his ear.

"I'm proud of us." He repeats pulling away from the embrace.

BANG

The front door slams open. A huge gust of wind makes its bitter way in freezing the room

"Sam's here!" I giggle as the blonde giant throws himself into the room followed by his shorter yet more chaotic boyfriend behind him.

"Woah- sick place." He gasps whilst Alex begins to attempt to talk to Shane.

Shortly after Emily arrives. Although i never remembered inviting her. Then others arrive. Till the whole house is full of townspeople all laughing and chatting. I wander over to Shane for answers.

"Why's everyone here?" I ask.

"Well uh..here goes nothing.." he holds his breathe asking everyone to gather around

"Nat, i have to thank you for this. Not only did you fight for what you thought was right, you didnt let anyone stand in your way for what you believe. You came here any turned our lives upside down for the better. Hearing your story and realising you suffered the same i did with alchol made me realise i wasnt alone and-"

"What the fuck Shane." I shout taking in his last statement. I watched as the shocked expressions poured onto the surrounding guests faces. I storm out leaving the party to slowly resume to the way it was.

Shane comes running out after me trying to explain himself which i dismiss. I stare up at the moonlight. Dazzling stars hang up in the sky as dusk settle's nearby.

"Im sorry, it was dumb. All of it is. You know what you did here and you know you deserve better." He goes to hold my hand. The feeling os his soft and slightly sweaty palms ate comforting and warm which combats this bleak situation.

Giving in i turn to him. "I cant stay mad at you." I pretend that he is still on my bad list although he can tell I'm a extremely bad liar.

Shane doesn't speak. He grabs my hand and pulls me away into the night.

We arrive at the lake where we had our first encounter. He holds my hand and steps forward. Smiling I remember every little thing we had been through. Fighting, disappointment, joy, love?

"You made me understand the greater things in life at this place, you also made me make the big decision of what happens next."

He quickly digs his hands through his pockets not daring to take his eyes off me.

He produces a mermaid pendant and offers it to me.

"Now it's your turn."
