Dancing. Great

Emily and i lay across the floor covered in many diffrent fabrics of all sorts of colours and textures as we stare up at the two dresses on sewn and hung up

"They look amazing Em" i chirp. Since all that had happened i had been avoiding Shane and Alex which has helped me return to my usual life in the valley.

"We better get ready. The dance starts in a hour" she giggles

I have no time to respond. The dress had already been thrown at me and i had somehow ended up behind the changing curtain in a blink of an eye.

"I don't reckon I'll be dancing this year. I was going to invite Sandy and ask her to be my partner but she never likes to leave her shop which is fair" Emily mentioned.

"I think you like Sandy don't you Em" i snicker.

"Sure whatever and your Yoba aren't you Nat" she starts laughing. "Do you reckon you'll have a partner to dance with?"

I didn't think about that. I need a partner to dance with in order to dance. Shane starts to come to mind and i quickly stop myself. "I'll ask Sam as a friend, it would be a good laugh" i giggle as i give my response.

I finish dressing and i step out fron behind the curtains. I stood in a similar dress to the one used for the egg festival. This time i have little roses embroidered which is matched with a brooch and a hairpin.

Soon we leave the house and make our way to the dance when Sam comes running past us. Not a single word said but he's all dressed up in a purple suit matched with a checked shirt underneath and he looks happy.

"Can tell Sam's the diamond in the rough if you get what i mean Nat" Emily bursts into laughter.

"Yeah he is" I join in. I wonder what he's so happy about.

We make it to the dance. Its stunning. How do they manage to pull this all off in such a short amount of time?

As soon as we are spotted by Sam he comes speeding hand in hand with...Alex?

"Hey Nat, hey Em. As you know this is Alex my-" they share a smile. "Boyfriend "

I give Alex a awkward smile. I'm happy for them but i want to make sure the feelings are genuine. Before i know it Sam and Emily are speeding off together with Alex to chat and I'm left alone.

I hear a low grumbling voice from behind me

"Hey..."

I look round to Shane who is inches away from me and staring right into my soul. Shit.

I stay facing him but i attempt to look into another direction

"Hey Shane." I try to respond as bluntly as possible. " I'm sorry about what Alex said. I am sure that you are nowhere near anything close to that."

"I don't care" he sighs. "Everyone expects that im a waste of space and ill just kill myself off. It doesn't bother me Nat"

"Then why did you have that reaction" i ask.

"Dunno just stuff." From the response I've been given i can tell something's up but I don't want to push him over it.

"Do you come every year?" I blurt out trying to make conversation.

"I only ever used to because of Jas. This year has been different because of er- new people."

"Need a friend?" I ask. I don't know what's making me say this. I just want to be close to him. The hell?

"Sure whatever." Short response back from him which doesn't at all shock me.

We both make our way over to the tables covered in foods and drinks. I watch as he starts chowing down on my homemade chilli jam. Nothing else, just the jam. Ew.

"This is good. Never seen it on the table before but it's great" he says in a happy tone

As much as i am glad that he is happy and enjoying himself i find it strange that he is happy. It almost seems illegal that he is in a good mood. Might as well make the most of it.

"I made it myself with some chilli's i brought at a market in Zuzu city. I would grow my own but they aren't in season yet."

"Oh right" he goes a little read before stuffing his face with the rest of the jam and standing away from the table.

"You look like your dressed up for someone. Got a date waiting?" He inquires.

"No. I wish i did because then I'd be able to dance" exhale.

Shane holds out his hand 

"May i?"
