Kitty
"I'll see you tomorrow okay?"
I nod my head in agreement to Mila who smiles back warmly at me before bounding down the front steps of the wooden front porch.
I watch her meet up with Thomas at their car, and after they exchange smiles to each other as they open their individual doors, I go ahead and close the large wooden front door, leaving the house quiet.
I turn around to Vinnie whos sitting on the stairs of our new house, the puppy held tightly in his arms since he tried to happily follow everyone out when they left, and I start twisting my hair around one of my fingers.
"You ready for bed?" Vinnie asks me, almost reluctantly so I walk over to him and sit down on the stair beside him.
He puts the dog down onto the floor, but the cocker spaniel puppy doesn't go anywhere, he immediately starts trying to crawl up into my lap so I go ahead and pick him up.
I ask Vinnie while adjusting the puppy on my lap, "Are you?"
Vinnie shrugs his shoulders and almost mumbles, "It's only 9..."
I clench my jaw and slowly look away from Vinnie to the front door as headlights hit it, letting me know that Mila and Thomas are in the middle of leaving.
It's not that I don't want to hang out with him... it's that I don't have the energy to.
I swallow the answer I want to give, and look up at him with a forced smile, "What do you have in mind that we do?"
His eyes search my face for a split second, like he's trying to decipher what I'm for before he slowly asks, "What do you want to do?"
"I asked you first."
His eyes light up at my response and he takes a relieving exhale as he looks away from me and to the front door.
"We could sit on our porch swing and talk?" He suggests, and then he looks at me. "I can grab some blankets?"
That doesn't sound half bad actually.
I nod my head and the both of us stand up off the stairs, the puppy getting adjusted underneath my arm.
Vinnie looks at me as the two of us start climbing the stairs side by side, and he asks, "Did you decide what you're going to name him?"
I shake my head and hold the puppy out in front of myself, "Not yet, honestly I can't believe he's mine."
"Do you like him?" Vinnie questions me anxiously, his eyes darting away from me for a second.
"I love him." I nod my head, a small genuine smile breaking through, "Hes so sweet. Honestly the best surprise ever."
Vinnie and I reach the top of the stairs and so set the puppy down so that he can follow on his own, and he does.
He pads down the hallway after me with a hop and it makes me smile, especially when Hera comes zooming up the stairs after us as well to follow us.
Vinnie and I turn into the bedroom and I wait for the two animals to get to me before I walk into the room fully, and when I do, it it's me.
"Finch." I speak my mind out loud while staring down at the dog, "I like Finch."
Vinnie pulls a blanket off of our bed and looks over his shoulder with scrunched together brows, "Like, the guy from all the bright places?"
I nod my head and walk over to the bed, "Yea, Theodore Finch."
