Vinnie
"Ah! Vinnie how are you lad?"
I frown at Kent, glancing at my grimace in the small box in the corner of the screen, "Don't call me that."
He smirks at me, a knowing look in his eyes that are somehow not dulled out from the facetime call. "But Kitty calls you-"
"And shes the only one that will." I snap at him, cutting him off with a huff.
"Is there a reason for that?"
I glare at him for a beat, my irritation flaring.
I just want to get to what I want to talk about. I need to talk about everything with him- and the easiest way to do that is to be honest with him and straight to the point for once.
Through gritted teeth, I flash him a forced smile. "My Nan called me Vinnie."
Kent pulls his brows together, and tilts his head just slightly at me, going silent. I lick my bottom lip and glance to the double glass doors of the study, anxiously making sure that theyre shut tight and Kittys shadow is no where in sight behind the fogged glass. This room is not sound proof, so I lower my head closer to the desktop and turn my eyes back to the camera.
"Kitty lost it last night."
Kent leans forward, concern twisting on his young features as he folds his hands in front of himself. "How so?"
I clench my teeth together, the words getting caught in my throat like im choking. I cough out, and sit back just slightly- glancing at the door again. "She shot a hole in our ceiling."
"She what?!" Kent questions, clearly startled by my statement.
I nod my head, pressing my lips into a line as I move my eyes back to him. "It was partially my fault," I begin to explain, "but mostly Chases-"
"The kid you have an issue with?"
My eye twitches at the fact that he keeps interrupting me, and it takes everything in me to inhale slowly and respond evenly, "Yes."
"What the hell happened mate?"
This guy makes it terribly hard to remain calm.
"She found out everyone knew about her..." I pause for a moment, thinking how to word it, "Past. Chase told her- he told her in a way that was wrong. So I freaked- we got into it and no one could get us to stop so Kitty took one of the other guys guns and shot it off to get us to stop arguing." I run my hand through my hair, and breathe hard through my nose. "Then she screamed at everyone... well," I nod my head back and forth, "In Kitty standards, she was screaming. That girls voice doesn't raise above a certain octave ever."
"Yea," Kent chuckles, "She sounds like a character from a kids show I watched with my nieces at one point. My little pony?" He looks up at the ceiling like hes deep in thought, "How is she now?"
I flicker my eyes to the doors again, "Shes been sleeping on and off."
Kent turns his head back to face me, his lips pursing, "Has she mentioned it at all?"
"Kind of." I lowr my hands into my lap, twisting my rings around my fingers, "Not really."
"Shes completely shut down... hasnt she?"
I stare at Kent, my lips sealing like someones taken an invisible needle and thread to them. Saying it out loud makes it too real that this just threw her one hundred steps back again. She was making such amazing progress. She was doing so well- her hair had life to it, her eyes shone with that unconditional love she carries, and she was smiling again.
