Kitty

I wasn't expecting to sleep through the night, and like clockwork, I woke up around 4 and never went back to bed. I stared at the ceiling of the boat as I felt my body rock back and forth. At times, I thought the lull of the sea was actually going to put me back to sleep, but it never did.

Around 5 I got out of bed and got dressed in a purple sweater and some loose pants. That didn't feel complete though, so I pulled the locket necklace from my bag that I packed and added that. After I gave myself a glance over, I ended up deciding to take Finch to the pier to relive himself so Vinnie didn't have to when he woke up. On my way back to the boat, I decided to order some food for us so I did that too, scheduling it to be delivered around 7:30, a half hour after Vinnie usually wakes up.

I didn't want Finch to wake him up either, so I grabbed a blanket from the upper deck and sat out, wrapped up as I watched the sun come up over the water.

I should surf sometime soon, I always enjoy doing that.

A flash of blond makes me turn my head to find its Vinnie, bounding up the stairs a look of slight panic.

I wish he wouldn't freak out like that.

"Lovely." I call out to him, and his head snaps my way.

He shoves his hands into his black sweat pants while his puffed black windbreaker blows slightly with the wind. My hair blows into my face and I move it out of the way to watch him approach me.

As Vinnie sits down on the bench beside me, he rolls his sleeve up just slightly, showing off two things, the bracelet I made him, and a hair tie.

He quickly takes the hair tie off his wrist and holds it out to me, so I gently take it between two fingers.

"Thanks." I smile at him warmly, and he looks to the ocean.

He hums and scoots closer into me, "You see anything yet?"

I shake my head and follow his gaze as I start collecting my hair with my hands, "I didn't want to until you got up."

Vinnie rolls his eyes to look at me, "Seriously? The only reason we're here is to see the damn things."

"Not true!" I disagree with him, my tone light, "It was so you could fuck me into the bed and traumatize our dog."

Vinnie smirks at me, his eyes flickering down to my lips, "About that; what was that little noise you made toward the end there?"

My cheeks heat up and my head shakes involuntarily, "I don't know what you're talking about."

"You sure? Because you seemed like you were very in the moment there Kitty." He teases me, so I bump him with my shoulder, making him laugh at my embarrassment and wrap his arms around me.

I lean into him and glance to the side, about to make a smart ass comment back when off in the distance, a shadow rising from the ocean makes me shoot up, startling not only Vinnie but Finch.

I practically sprint to the boats edge, and slam my body against the railing, my eyes focused on the water until I see it again.

"Jesus Christ, did you see something?" Vinnie asks as he comes over to me, and I nod.

I squint my eyes and put my hand over my face to shield the sun, "Yea but... I can't tell what it is..."

Vinnie backs away, out of my peripheral while I continue to search, but when the boat suddenly roars to life, I whirl around.

Vinnie smiles at me from the wheel and I smile back at him, excitement ripping at my skin.

I can barely contain myself as Vinnie the drives the boat out of the pier like an expert, making me wonder how he came across learning to drive it, and I mentally put that in the vault to ask him later.
