Now

As soon as he uttered those words to her, he excused himself to go attend to a patient. He left Khairi with so many questions spiraling in her head
Was her situation really worth taking her life for? Could be

She lost her family, her home, her lover and was left with nothing. Absolutely nothing
So Yes, it is worth taking her life for. Since living is now completely meaningless to her

Khairi suddenly gagged, feeling nauseous. And before you know it she had rushed to bathroom sink and coughed out all the contents of her stomach. She rinsed her mouth and ambled out of the bathroom

"The first trimester symptoms kicking in huh?" His voice startled her as she jumped on her feet, swinging her hands to her bosom as a gasp escaped her lips "Ya Subhanallah!" How does he always appear out of nowhere?

He rubbed his nape, sheepish "Sorry I scared you"

"I almost died" She said rolling her eyes then warned "Don't do that again"

The doctor frowned, considering the fact that she did almost die. Literally "Sorry" He muttered once again

She nodded her head, about to say it's okay but couldn't when she rushed to the bathroom and hurled her guts out. Rinsing her mouth once again, she strolled back to the room

"That bad?" He cocked a brow, looking at her in a way that made her feel uneasy

Khairi nodded and made her way towards the bed, she sat down "I'm still feeling nauseous" She made a face

"Symptoms May include morning sickness, nausea, with or without vomiting. Increased urination, fatigue, food cravings and aversions. Not many women experience swollen breast but it's a common symptom" He explained and Khairi immediately flushed at his words. How could he say all this without an ounce of shame
Of course he could, he's a doctor

He handed her a bar of chocolate "Have this, it could help lessen down the nausea" She collected the bar and immediately opened it

It's a diary milk, and it gave her happiness "Why do you have a bar of chocolate on you? I thought guys don't eat junks" Khairi fluttered her eyes closed, relishing the taste of the heavenly goodness

He shrugged a shoulder "I had it in my office, so I just brought it for you"

"Well thank you" She gave him a thumbs up "It gave me some joy at least"

He nods to tell her it's nothing. He kept looking at her, staring at her like he's trying to study her and honestly it's a little unnerving to her. Khairi squirmed under his gaze but he never took his eyes off her "You look so sad"

Khairi's breath hitched for a moment, and for some reason her heart had picked up it's pace. Did she really look that pathetic and miserable? She couldn't help but scoff "I do not look sad, I am sad"

"Well, it doesn't suit you" By now he was sitting comfortably on carpeted floor, he seems to enjoy sitting on the floor "I think being happy and smiling will suit you more"

His comment just caused her to frown more "Well too bad my days of smiling and being happy are actually over" She released a defeated sigh

"Hardships do not last forever. After every hardship, there will be relief" He quoted the Qur'an verse, looking at her with an indecipherable expression. His face always seems so emotionless, and at this point she wished she could read his facial expression
