It's so infuriating. It's so so unsettling, the fact that she couldn't get him out of her mind. She couldn't sleep for just a wink, he had infiltrated her mind and she kept replaying his words

I want to marry you

Is he playing some kind of games with her right now? No, she shook her head, Doc is not that kind of person; she reminded herself. Series of memories came flashing back to her; what if Doc betrayed her? What if he's just like him, the person who destroyed her life?

But what if he's a good man? He is a good man right? Since he wanted to go ahead and marry her, he must have good intentions. The what if's were just so many

Khairi suppressed a groan as she maneuvered her body to the left side, her eyes wide open in the dark night and her thoughts running through her mind like waves in an ocean torrent

He made her promise to think about it, but she hadn't done any logical thinking. She was much too stunned by his words to do any logical thinking anyway, all she knows is her emotions are all over the place

What are you doing to me Doc? She asked herself rhetorically as she recalled back to their earlier encounter, after he brought her dinner

She was slowly chewing her food, her mind heavy from the intense awkward silence. She raised her spoon mid bite when he spoke "You're freaking out Ummulkhair" He raised a perfectly carved brow "Stop panicking"

"What?" She asked, her mouth full

"It's so obvious. Your thoughts are all over your face, you got this little crease between your brows and the frown etched upon your lips. It's so pretty much obvious how you're battling with your thoughts" He commented, looking at her earnestly
How does he do that?

She took another spoon full of the macaroni "Well don't blame me, it's not every time I get asked to marry someone I barely know"

If he took the offense out of her words, he didn't show it "Or so I'm a stranger?"

"No" She sighed, rubbing her palms over her temple "You know that's not what I mean Doc, I..." He stopped her mid sentence

"I know what you mean Ummulkhair" A low chuckle rumbled from his chest "And I know it's not every time you get asked for marriage, that's why you promised to think about it. So please stop stressing right now and loosen up, you have all the time in the world okay?"

A sigh escaped her lips again, she looked up at him "But why?"

He looked up from his own plate and his brows furrowed, they were eating dinner together that night "Huh?"

"Why do you want to marry me? Why me? You could get any girl you want; I mean you're a doctor and you're handsome and kind and..." She paused when she realized she was rambling, and his lips twitched at her words "What I mean to say is, out of all the girls in the world why me?"

An unknown emotion runs across his face and he was silent for a beat of a moment, he looked away then faced her again "I don't like the fact that you're staying here all alone, or that you don't have a place to go to..."

Khairi chipped in without letting him finish, a feeling of disappointment sunk in her stomach "So you want to marry me cos I'm homeless? That's what it's about? You're pitying me?" Her voice has an edge of anger to it "I don't want your pity Doc" Her voice lowered as she mumbled under her breath

He released a breath with a shake of his head "Ummulkhair, let me finish talking mana"

She nodded her head as an indication for him to carry on "I don't like that you don't have a place to go to, or someone to go to. But as much I hate to admit it this early to you" He inhaled a sharp breath, then his throat worked "I like you Ummulkhair, way more than I plan to. And trust me I went over it a thousand—no a million times, and I still stand by my words. I want to marry you"
