Now

He'd woken up with a headache, probably a migraine which comes and goes constantly, especially when he was stressed to the core. He stood up and stretched, it was almost noon and for the first time in a few months, he had a good sleep
Usually, his weekends were disrupted by emergencies in the hospital but this time around he finally got some time to himself and got some rest

Checking his phone was the first thing he did, for any unread messages or emails. When he read a few and replied, a yawn escaped his lips and his belly grumbled lowly

As if on cue, the knock on the door reached his ears and a genteel smile automatically graced his features, it was Ami "Come in!" He half-yelled

She was probably struggling with the breakfast tray so he briskly stood up and pulled the door open for her. His smile broadened when he spotted her with a large breakfast tray still in her pajamas "Good morning!" She chirped

He raised a brow "Aren't you a chirpy little ray of sunshine?" He closed the door after her "Why are you so happy?"

She grinned from ear to ear as she walked over and placed the tray on the carpeted floor, then sat down crossed leg "Well first, I'm done with my exams Yaya do you know how it feels?!" Ami made an exaggerated motion with her arms

"Of course I don't, because I never went to school" His voice dripped with sarcasm, he had already opened the flask and started serving. The two siblings had once made a pact to always eat breakfast together during the weekends, and it's been six years since they made the pact, it has never been broken

She rolled her eyes "No need to go all sarcasm king on me" They were facing each other as they ate from a single plate

"I'm so proud of you. Yanzu se level two kenan? Yarinya ta girma" He gave her a Cheshire grin as he reached out and ruffled her hair which was slightly exposed as her cap had slid down

"Yaya!" She screeched and adjusted her cap "What about you? How's the work place"

He shook his head slightly and gave a wry smile "Stressful, very very stressful. Who said being a doctor is easy?"

"I know it's not" She sighed gloomily and then came a momentary pause "Yaya, Daddy has not been home in a week or more. I'm really worried"

His stomach sunk, deep down in his heart he had wished for her to say anything, anything else but not the matter regarding his parents. But who was he kidding? A sigh escaped his lips "I know Ami, please stop worrying kinji. I will call him and sort everything out you've got nothing to worry about" He now reached out and cupped her cheeks then gave her a reassuring nod

"Smile for me now" His lips quirked to the side "Haba mana qanwata ta kaina"

She snorted out a laugh, then nudged his shoulder "You're not serious"

"I have something to tell you" He called out, looking at her weirdly "I don't know how you will react

"Okayyy" Ami drawled suspiciously

He bit the inside of his cheek, not after taking a sip of his OJ that Ami has brought for them along with the breakfast "I asked Ummulkhair to marry me" He stated calmly, like it was the most casual thing he's ever stated

Dahir watched as her eyes went wide as saucers, and she choked on the yam she was eating. She started coughing out of control, he gave her a glass of water and when her coughs subsided, she shrieked "Yaya!"
