It was way different than Khairi thought it would be. She felt...kind of at Home? When she first came to Doc's house, she thought it would be awkward and uncomfortable for her, but then Ami is the sweetest person on earth and she did everything in her will power to make Khairi more comfortable and make her feel at ease.Well, she felt at ease except when Doc comes home. She rarely sees him these days, since she's no more at the hospital. He goes out early in the morning and comes back late at night so her moments of seeing him were limited
It's been five days since she started living here, and whenever they have an encounter her heart goes haywire. That's the effect he has on her
At first, Doc had insisted she took the guest room just so she can have her privacy and all but Ami also insisted they sleep in the same room, saying she's always lonely
She'd also rejected the offer to sleep in the guest room, by the way she's already used to sleeping with her sisters in the same room back at home
Khairi released a long dejected and Forlorn Sigh. Her eyes clenched shut automatically as she recalled the memories of her family. Tears were already stinging her eyes, she quickly shook her head as she willed herself not to cry
She looked up at Ami who was sleeping peacefully on the bed, Khairi had stared at her for a little longer than usual. Finally, she closed the Qur'an she had just finished reading, carefully folded the prayer mat and then ambled to the kitchen
The house was dark since all the lights were out and it was just 4a.m in the Morning. She walked stealthily, careful not to make any unnecessary noise and as soon as she reached the Kitchen the first thing she approached was the Fridge. She opened it, snatched a bottle of water and gulped it down
Khairi slowly leaned against the kitchen counter as she sipped her water and got lost in her own string of thoughts.
She suddenly froze. There was a sound, someone was struggling to open the door. Who could it be at this Ungodly hour? She knew for a fact that Doc had not returned home last night, and Ami was still sleeping. Khairi made a move to walk, but froze in her tracks again. What is it's a thief? Or worse, an armed robber? She thought to herself
Her heartbeat accelerated, and began to pound in an unsteady pace. The series of supplications she suddenly started reciting were endless that she didn't even know which ones she was reciting. She just knew her lips were moving
Automatically moving to the kitchen cabinets, she searched for something, anything and her hands were shaking when she finally gripped the handle of a frying pan. The person on the other side seemed to be struggling a bit too much
But she left the door opened, why is the person now struggling to open it? She paused as the door finally opened and in walked a pair of long legs
"Oh my goodness!" Khairi almost exclaimed silently, she pinched the gap between her brows as she let out a sigh of relief "Ya Ilahil Alamin!" Her hands were glued to her bosom as she exclaimed yet again, calming her racing heart
Her eyes clenched shut, turned around and then turned back again to face him. Standing aghast in her pajamas and her knee length Hijab, she spoke softly "Wallahi you almost gave me a cardiac arrest. Kai!!"
Doc looked sheepish "I'm sorry. I didn't know you were in the kitchen. And I kept struggling with the door I don't know what's wrong with it" He paused, looking at her with an amusing look "Is that why you're holding a Pan?" A smile curled at his lips "Did you think I was a thief? Were you going to hit me with that?"
