Now"Wow, even your name is hot" As soon as the words escaped her lips, she regretted them. Khairi really needed to learn how to filter her words
She glanced at him swiftly, and he was smirking amusedly "Did you know that doctors work an average of 1.5 times more hours per week than the average person. It would take 54 years to complete the work that a doctor does in 36 years" She was spewing out facts, trying to cover up her earlier slip up
He chuckled at her antics, walking back to his chair "You're such a nerd"
"It's true though, right?" She cocked a brow, standing up closer towards his table "Probably" He answered
She walked up to his table and started arranging his things, watching him as his eyes hover over the screen "You don't have to"
Khairi shrugged lightly "It's okay, I want to make myself productive" She continued to arrange his table until it's sparkling clean
"I ordered lunch, hope you don't mind" He spoke, not withdrawing his eyes from his phone. Khairi just made a sound of approval in return
A while later, she was sitting on the sofa and scribbling on the journal he gave her while he worked in silence. The food arrived and as soon as she opened the pack, she squealed
She took a spoonful of the dambun shinkafa and almost instantly moaned from how good it is "Lemme just give you a heads up Doc. I might just fall in love with you if you keep up with these swoon worthy actions of yours" She was just joking, but his eyes had left the screen and fell on hers. And he was looking at her like she was exquisite, like she's the best thing he'd ever seen
His face was devoid of any emotion, it's as if what she said had impacted him so muchKhairi laughed, clearing her throat to ease the tension "But this is so good. You love traditional foods too?"
"I really do" He picked up his phone that was lying on the table and draw it close to his ears
She listened as he talked with the other person "Can you please bring it?" He paused, his face lacing with exasperation "Alright fine" He mumbled, ending the phone call
Several minutes later, the doors of his office bursts open and a girl walked in. She looked about Khairi's age or maybe older, and she was looking back and forth between the doc and Khairi, grinning like a maniac
"Oh I see" She walked towards Dr. Dahir and gave him a bunch of files "Here are you files"
She stood with her arms akimbo, like she was waiting for an explanation. Doc rolled his eyes and sighed, he gestured towards her "This is Amira, my favorite sister" His voice was dry, dripping with sarcasm
"My dear brother" She clicked her tongue "I'm your only sister, of course I'm your favorite"
He rolled his eyes, but Khairi noticed the smile he was trying to hide
Amira turned to face Khairi "And you must be Khairi, it's nice to finally meet you. My brother wouldn't shut up about you, he is totally smit..."
He stopped her "You've done your job Ami, so if you would excuse me" He was looking at her pointedly
"Take a chill pill bro, I just want to spend some quality time withmy newest best friend" She walked over and draped her arm over Khairi's shoulder
He narrowed his eyes at his sister, his look speaking in volumes "Ami" He warned and she raised her arms in defense "Alright alright, let me just get to know her please"
