"Well, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who got poked today, for once," I joked, making Cristian, Russell and Eros laugh.
"I think you can take the band-aid off now," Eros said as a server placed down a bowl of pasta in front of me.
"I like it," I replied. "It's a pretty, green and it has dinosaurs on it."
Russell chuckled "How did you get a kid's band-aid?"
"I used my pregnancy card," I informed. "Said I was distraught because I had been slut-shamed by my mother my entire life, which is true, and that now I felt like she had always been right since the identity of my baby's biological father is unknown."
Eros scoffed "That's unfair, we don't get that card."
"Unfair?" My right eyebrow arched. "When I push out this baby my vagina will most likely rip, and if my vagina decides not to dilate ten centimeters then it means my abdomen has to be cut open, and my organs will be pushed around my chest cavity so doctors can get to the baby," I stabbed a rigatoni and put it in my mouth. "Now is that a card you would like to play, Eros?"
Cristian chuckled "You better keep your mouth shut, Eros."
I grinned "Thank you for your support — I really appreciate all of you, no matter what those lab results say. I adore you three."
"We are happy to be here for you," Eros spoke. "Just take it slow, we know you feel like there's a lot on your plate and that's why we have agreed to all pause everything else we have going on to help you."
"That's very thoughtful of you guys," my cheeks turned hot "but you don't have to; my dad is here and he's making an effort to be in my life. I'm sure you three have a lot of things to do, especially Russell who got yanked away from his life."
Russell smiled at me as he reached for my hand "There's nothing more important to us than you and that baby. You have nothing to worry about — whatever's outside here isn't important anymore."
"Thank you," tears instantly flooded my eyes "I love you guys so much. Besides this baby, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me."
After having a lovely lunch with my three possible baby daddies, they took me shopping for all baby things. We got a stroller, a crib, a playpen, a changing table and some clothes— Eros said he would send someone for the big things tomorrow.
"Where are we going?" I asked with an arched eyebrow — we missed the pathway entrance to Eros' house.
Eros looked at me through the rearview "Remember that your dad has a surprise for you?"
"Yeah," I nodded, confused. "Are you guys in on it?" My eyes darted around.
Cristian hugged me from my shoulders "Of course we are — I mean, he told us this morning but it's very exciting," his right hand fell on my belly to gently rub it. "It's something you and the baby will put to use for many years to come."
"Stop giving clues," Eros scolded "you'll spoil it."
"No I won't," Cristian leaned his head on mine. It's odd, but I feel he wants to stay this close to me by the way he touches me. It's not this amicable embrace but something softer and meaningful. Those are things I'm sure I like and want in the partner I'll eventually choose to have. Maybe I should make a list of things I want in a partner to help my present and future self – it will be sort of cathartic.
