"So. Where to next?" I bound up to Quill's chair, standing on the balls of my feet. He shrugs.
"You have a whole lot of energy for someone who was up until five a.m.," He says, and I blush. I guess I had been on the phone with Nat longer than I thought. "Anyways, I'm all out of ideas. Maybe we can just stay on Tatooine until you guys have to be home."
"Uh... that might be a problem," Carol says, squinting into the distance from the windows.
"What? Why?" Loki asks, moving over to her. "Oh..."
"What do you mean 'Oh?'" Valkyrie joins them and she too goes quiet. Unable to hold in my curiosity, I meet them at them at the window and go just as quiet as they did.
"Is that-?" I whisper.
"That's a Kree ship, yes." Carol answers.
"And are those-?" I continue.
"Thirty Kree battleships behind it? Also a yes." She says, and I hear Loki utter a string of what I take to be Asgradian curses under his breath.
"We've got to get out of here, like now." I say, turning back towards Quill. His jaw sets as he thinks.
"Okay," He says. "Loki, go wake up Drax. Tell him what's going on, he'll know what to do. Val, wake up Gamora; Y/N, wake up Rocket. I'll get this ship in the air but we need to take these assholes down."
Loki, Valkyrie and I waste no time in doing what we're told as we scamper to the bedrooms. I run into Rocket's room and rip his blanket off, hoping it will wake him up. It doesn't do the trick and I sigh exasperatedly and shake him back and forth before he jumps up, clenching my arm.
"Jesus, Rocket!" I exclaim as he lets go, rubbing the spot on my arm that he grabbed.
"Y/N, what the fuck are you doing?" He asks, his eyes wild.
"We're- the ship is being attacked; the Kree found us." Rocket's eyes widen and he jumps out of bed, heading out to the cockpit.
"Quill?" He calls. "What the fuck is going on?"
"I'm going to go wake Peter," I say amidst the chaos, but I can tell no one's paying attention to me. I make my way back to the bedrooms as a distant boom sounds. A second later, the ship rattles and shakes and I brace myself against the wall, sliding down and covering my head with my hands.
Peter emerges from the bedrooms a minute later in his pajamas, his hair sticking up in a thousand directions. He rushes over to me as the shaking stops, crouching so he's at eye level.
"Y/N! What is going on?" He asks, looking between me and the front of the ship with worried eyes.
"The Kree found us," I reply. "They're attacking our ship. Quill and Rocket are trying to get us out of here."
"Fuck," Peter whispers. "Okay, come on, let's go see if we can help." He grabs my hands and helps me off the floor before the two of us run into the common area where almost everyone has gathered.
"Drax, get ready to fight them off." Gamora instructs, yelling as the ship speeds off into the sky.
"Where are we going?" Thor asks.
"Where they can't find us!" Quill responds as we travel higher and higher. Tatooine is the size of a chocolate chip cookie at this point and I stare down at it longingly.
"They'll be able to find us anywhere!" Carol shouts. "This wasn't a coincidence. They're tracking the ship."
"What?" Everyone exclaims.
"Did you guys go back to Hala at all? After you got the mission?" She asks.
"Yes," Nebula says with a nod. "We went back and they told us they wanted you as well." Carol makes a face and looks out at the approaching ships.
"They must have put a tracker on the ship when you did," She says.
"How? We were on the ship the whole time." Peter says, but I put my hand up in protest.
"We got off to get food, remember? It took, like, twenty minutes." I remind him, and he blanches.
"So this is... our fault?" He asks, and Quill shakes his head, keeping his eyes on the space ahead of him.
"You guys couldn't have known. We told you to get food. This is no one's fault." Quill assures, and Peter nods gratefully. Another boom sends everyone tilting over and I grab Peter's arm before he loses his balance.
"What do we do?" Mantis asks.
"We destroy all the ships, get somewhere that's remotely safe, and we destroy the tracker." I nod as Carol talks.
"Sounds like a plan to me," I say.
"I'm game." Loki agrees.
"How do we destroy them?" Gamora asks. "There's too many of them; they're too powerful."
"Not if we have the right equipment." She says. "Can anyone fly through space? I can take a few down myself, but not all of them." Everyone collectively shakes their heads and Carol bites her lip in frustration.
"We have space suits," Gamora suggests. "In the back."
"I'll help," I say.
"Me, too." Peter agrees.
"No offense, Peter," I say. "But I don't know how much help you'd be out there. I mean, I don't think your webs are gonna do very well in the middle of space." He opens his mouth in protest but closes it fairly quickly, realizing I'm right.
"I can help," Thor says. "I can definitely help."
"Me too," Valkyrie agrees.
"I'll go." Quill says from the pilot's seat. "Gamora, you can do my job over here."
"Quill, are you-" Gamora starts, her voice laced ever-so-slightly with concern.
"I've got it." He insists. "I've got powers I might as well use them." Carol nods.
"That settles it then," She says. "Everyone else will stay in here and help get us to safety and Thor, Quill, Valkyrie, Y/N and I will get to work."
