I listen to the wind howl
Telling me I have to hurry
I listen to the robin's song
Saying not to worry
So on and on I go,
The seconds tick the time out
So much left to know,
And I'm on the road to find out

"You want to bargain with the Collector?" Gamora shrieks once we're back on the ship. She smacks Quill on his chest and he winces, pulling back.
"Gamora-"
"Do you remember the last time we interacted with the Collector?" She asks. "Or do I need to remind you?" My skin pales at the memory of the sinking in my gut that I felt when we came upon the Collector's spaceship and the feeling of the strong grip Sanden once had on my arm.
"Yeah, Y/N, I don't really like this idea either," Peter admits, rubbing the back of his neck. His gaze lingers on me like he can feel how anxious I just became, but he chooses not to say anything.
"I really don't want to become raccoon stew." Rocket says, crossing his arms.
"It's gonna be fine. We're just gonna slip in, grab my uncle - God, that's weird to say - and slip out." Quill says casually.
"That's never going to work." Gamora says, her words as sharp as daggers. "Someone is going to get killed. How do you expect him not to see our ship? Or not be aware of Y/N after she narrowly escaped?" Her glare shifts from Quill to me as she asks the question before quickly returning to him. "And have you even thought about what you're going to do with this uncle of yours? He's Ego's brother. We can't trust him. We don't have room on our ship. How do you expect this to happen, Peter?" Quill gulps when Gamora is done with her questions.
"Uh..." He says. "It's going to work. I have faith."
"Faith," Gamora scoffs, walking away. "Like that's ever worked for anyone."
"It worked for Peter Pan!" Quill shouts after her. "And we basically have the same name!"
"I don't know who that is!" She yells back. He sighs, defeated.
"Now what? We can't find Illa without him; we'll be flying around blind." I ask.
"Yeah, yeah," Quill waves a hand. "I gotta plan."
"A plan?" Peter repeats, standing up and moving beside me. "But Gamora just said-"
"I know," Quill says. "But we've come this far. And no one will be in danger, I promise."
Peter and I share a look. "Promise?" I ask.
Quill nods. "Cross my heart and hope to die." Peter gives me a small shrug.
"Fine." I agree. "Fine, we're in."
Quill grins. "Great," He says. "Now we just need to get Loki and Talos on board." Peter and I share a confused look.
"What do you need them for?"
•—•—•
"You need us to do what?" Loki exclaims, his eyes wide open in disbelief.
"I need you to pretend to be Groot and Y/N." Quill repeated.
"Why would you want us to do that?" Talos asks.
"Because we need a distraction." Quill explains. "Thor and Gamora - as soon as we get Gamora on board - will bring you two to the Collector, saying that you found them on some planet and were bringing them to the Collector as a sign of friendship or some shit like that while Y/N, Peter, Carol and I will go poke around, find Alter Ego, and get what we need out of him." I raise my eyebrows, impressed.
"Actually, Quill, that's not the worst idea you've ever had," I compliment, and he grins.
"I know!" He exclaims.
"There's a lot of holes in this plan," Talos says suspiciously. "How do you know where your Uncle is going to be? Or even that he'll still be there?"
Quill makes a face. "Wow, you're asking the tough questions."
"I feel like I should be," Talos responds honestly.
"Mantis and I spoke yesterday and she told me the Collector got a hold of Alter Ego a few years ago. My dad told her." Quill explains. "Plus, I've been to the Collector's place before. I know my way around. He likes to put everything on display which means that Alter Ego won't be that hard to spot. I promise I've thought this through." He makes eye contact with me as he says the last part and I nod my head slightly. "Any other questions?"
"How do you know he's going to help you?" Loki asks.
"I think he'll help in exchange for his freedom," Quill says. "Sounds like a good deal to me."
"Do you know what he looks like?" Talos asks right after.
"All of the Collector's cages are labeled. And trust me, I'll know." Quill replies quickly.
"You've got an answer for everything." Talos mutters.
"It's settled then," Quill says with a sliver of a smile on his face. "I just have to get Gamora to agree."
Loki snorts. "Good luck with that one." Quill's eyes narrow.
"I've got it." He says sharply. "Just give me a few days."
"How many days are we talking here, Quill?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.
"Just a few. Five? A week?" Quill says. I groan.
"We don't have time for that!" I exclaim.
"The girl's right," Talos agrees. "Have you forgotten that we're on the run from one of the most advanced races in the galaxy?"
Quill's jaw sets. "I did forget that a little, yeah." Loki sighs heavily.
"We're screwed." He mutters, and Quill furrows his eyebrows.
"I've got this, guys. Don't even sweat it." Quill says, but I can tell he's trying to convince himself just as much as he's trying to convince us. "Just give me a day. I'm very persuasive." He raises his eyebrows up and down.
Peter makes a face. "I did not need to know that, dude."
"Yeah," I agree. "I genuinely never want to hear you say anything like that ever again."
"I've watched fellow Asgardians die and that was more painful." Loki says, and I stifle a laugh. Quill furrows his eyebrows.
"I know you don't believe me, but I'm going to get her on board. Just you wait." Quill says before storming off after Gamora.
(A/N: Multiverse of Madness comes out in three days and the season finale for Moon Knight is tomorrow! Who's excited?)
