We make it to Skylar's friend's house and there is no sightings of Pierce so far. All I have to do now is get rid of Skylar and make it back safely. For some reason I don't think it will be that easy dealing with a stalker. Skylar skips up the steps to the front door. I ring the doorbell. I can hear kids laughing and running around. They have no cares in the world. No stalker boys. No puberty. All they worried about is cooties apparently. Emma answers the door. Skylar and Emma both scream excitedly when they see each other. I cover my ears. Do they not get to see each other in school every day?
"Yay you're here." Emma twirls around Skylar like a fairy.
"I was late because we were at lizard boy house." Skylar says. Emma makes a face of disgust. Emma's mom comes to the door. Skylar runs inside the house with Emma and the rest of the screaming girls. I hope Mrs. Heartly has some earplugs.
"Hey Seraphina. Thanks for bringing Skylar. Emma has been dying to see her." Mrs. Heartly says. What a great choice of words. Is that a sign? Damn I turn everything into a death sentence. I think I was born cynical.
"No problem at all." I grin. I'm happy to get her off my hands. They can have her. Shit keep her for as long as you like.
"Do you want a ride back? My husband can take you." Mrs. Heartly asks.
"No, it's fine. I'm not that far from Vee's house."
She smiles. "Okay thanks again. Be safe." She closes the door. Maybe I should have taken her offer. It is kind of dark out, but the sun is still setting. This is a perfect opportunity for Pierce to do one of his reappearing, disappearing acts. I put myself straight in danger like an idiot. Is it because I want to bump into him on purpose? It's like something about him keeps calling to me. Ugh I need this boy out of my mind this is ridiculous.
I start walking and I hear my phone beep. It's Vee texting me to make sure I'm okay. I text her back saying I'm on my way back. That's if nothing goes wrong but I will be watching everything around me.
Leon also sent me a text saying sorry about mom. She must have told him what I said, making me look like the bad guy. Ugh. He says he will make it up to me soon. I wonder what surprise he has for me. I can't wait to spend some one on one time with my big brother. I wish I can tell him about that accident, but he would just laugh at me. I wouldn't blame him either. Lord knows Pierce won't tell me anything. He rather plays in riddles and I'm tired of it. Why can't he give me a straight answer?
As I'm crossing the street, I see bright lights coming down the road. They are moving fast but I think I can get across before it comes. I walk a little faster when I reach the middle of the street, but then I can't move. I look down at my legs and I can't even feel them. I try to wiggle them but it's like I'm melted to the concrete.
I am literally stuck to the ground. I can see the light from the car coming closer because my shadow gets bigger. I start to panic and grab at my legs, but they won't budge. The lights are getting closer and it sounds like a motorcycle. The first person who comes to mind is Pierce.
I keep trying to move but I'm going nowhere. I refuse to die like this. I scream at the top of my lungs for anyone to hear me. The streets and sidewalks are empty. No one is around. It's just me and the motorcycle that is going to run me down. I can't die like this. It can't be the way I leave this world. I pull harder at my legs.
I can hear the motorcycle like it's by my ear. I close my eyes ready for impact because I see no way out of this. I peek, and my eyes widen when I see it about to crash into me. I scream and close my eyes. I'm dead, I know it. I can feel myself leave my body. Someone touches my shoulder and it can only be God welcoming me to heaven.
