With a thud I fall to my hands and knees on hard concrete. The smoke evaporates but my tears don't and I stay down unable to gain the will to move. I sit here and cry thinking of all the horrible things they could be doing to Pierce. He should have let me stay and fight. I didn't care if my life was at risk. I would have still done it. Anyone but him. My tears stain the ground and I feel crippled.

I know I can't give up yet. Not while they have Pierce. Vane will keep him as collateral until I give myself up so I have to believe he won't hurt him too bad until then. If he does then any kind of agreement he wants will end with a fireball blasting through his brain.

I take a deep breath and stand up slowly to see Pierce sent me to Vee's. I should have known. I walk closer to the house and the door is slightly open.

"Vee?" I peek my head inside and it's quiet. I fully walk inside and the whole house looks like someone broke in. There are broken lamps, chairs, glass everywhere and ripped furniture. The pictures on the wall are smashed and feathers from the pillows blow in the air.

Oh no. Ash has been here. I swear to the heavens if he hurt Vee or anyone else in this house there's no telling which Seraphina Vane will get.

I run upstairs looking for any sign of life. I'm breathing so heavily I thought I'm having a heart attack. Please let everyone be okay. This can't happen because of me.

"Hello? Vee? Ms. Garrett?" I yell through the house. I hear a noise from Ms. Garrett's room. I conjure a fireball and slowly walk into the room. Nothing seems out of place like it does downstairs. I guess whatever happened down there ended down there.

"Damn my clumsy ass just has to make so much noise!" I hear in my head. I lower my hand putting out the hot flame.

"Vee?" I say in relief.

"Wait Seraphina? Is that you?" I hear shuffling. "Ugh hold on I'm coming out."

Vee comes out almost falling over in the process. She brushes her clothes and fixes up her hair. Only Vee to be worried about how she looks after a battle instead of being worried about being hurt. I don't even care to nag her. I'm just happy she's alive and still her. Without warning I hug her tightly to me.

"Whoa I'm feeling the love." She says laughing to herself. She hugs me back. I pull away to make sure she's okay. Her long braids are styled up with chopsticks.

"How did those stay in your head during whatever happened here?" I laugh.

"Girl I can balance whooping ass and looking cute while I do so." She winks at me and I shake my head. She's a mess but I love her. "But as far as what happened, one name. Ash."

I sigh. "Yes I figured. I just barely got away from him and Pierce--" I abruptly stop and my mind once again wonders if he's doing okay. I can't even say his name without wanting to break down and cry. He saved me so I'm going to do the exact same thing. No questions asked.

"I know...I saw through your eyes..." Vee softly says. She grabs both my hands and I want to cry my eyes out. "We are going to get him back. Me and you. I guess the mean arrogant demon Pierce has grown on me." She rolls her eyes and then smiles. That's why she's my angel keeper. She keeps me stable when I need it and I need it right now.

"What about your mom and your brother? Please tell me they weren't here when Ash came in here acting a damn fool." I ask.

"No thank the heavens. My mother took my brother to our dad's house a little after you left. I told her I wanted to wait here in case you came back. Then after that comes Ash looking like a lost puppy searching for a bone for master. He demanded to know where you were and that he was going to wish I begged for mercy blah blah boring henchmen stuff." She pretends to make her hands talk while she mocks him.
