As soon as I put my shoes on, I hear a car honking outside. At this moment I hate anything that has wheels. I can't wait to spend the day with Leon though and just talk and laugh. It will be like old times when I was younger. I want to know what's going on in his life and if he's happy. I need to see someone contempt with their life because mine is insane all over the place.
When I get in the car Leon gives me a big hug. I feet like a child again in his arms. He's my number one supporter and protector. "I am so happy to see you as always." I smile.
"Of course because you know your big bro got you and with that title it's my job to let you know when you're wrong. So what happened with you and mom?" He asks.
I should have seen that coming. "Look, I tried to talk to her, but she doesn't listen. She thinks I care about nothing but she never tried to talk to me. Parents should want to get to know they're own kids. I care about things sometimes deeply, you know that."
He sighs. "I know you do." He pats my hand. "And I know Mom can be stubborn but you haven't been open to being open with her. I get you a teen and go through your own things. Give her a chance alright?" He nudges me playfully and I nod rolling my eyes. "Now are you ready for your surprise?"
I smile. "Yes, where are we going?"
"It's a surprise. I can't tell you." He says. I roll my eyes because he thinks he is a master of surprises. It took him a while to understand I didn't care for the same girly stuff Skylar did. What he didn't get was that I wanted to be like him. He's my hero.
"So, I want to know more about this Pierce character." Leon says as he pulls out the driveway. There goes that tingle again. I guess I can't escape from Pierce even in my day to day conversations. He finds his way into everything but I don't know why Leon keeps bringing him up. He is not my boyfriend and I thank the heavens for that.
"Why? I told you he is barely even a friend."
"Uh huh then what about Xavier? You still like him."
I almost forgot about him entirely. It doesn't make sense to crush on the very guy who knows you don't exist. I was looking so desperate. Why does Leon know every guy I had a crush on anyway? Besides, he will forever be a jerk and I don't have time for it.
"I don't like him either. Can we talk about something else?" I beg. He gives me this worried look.
"What's wrong? Do I have to..."
"Watch out!" I yell.
A truck is backing up out an alleyway blocking the road. Leon quickly hits the breaks making a loud screeching noise. We miss it by a few inches. My heart is beating so fast I thought it burst out of my chest. It's like that motorcycle accident all over again. The only thing is this was really about to happen because Leon is here with me to witness it.
Leon turns to me. "Phina, I'm so sorry. Are you okay? Are you hurt?" He checks himself for starches or bruises.
I don't respond. I can't move. I can't do anything but keep my hand on my heart to make sure I don't die from anxiety. I look around with a panic expecting to see him here. I feel warm tears slide down my cheeks.
Leon grabs my shoulder. "Seraphina, are you okay?" He lightly shakes me. "Hey say something. Your not hurt are you?"
I take a breath. "I'm sorry. I'm okay. I was just in shock for a second."
The truck pulls out the alleyway and goes about its day. I look at the alley where it came from and I see a shadow. I can feel its eyes on me giving me chills. I swear somebody is standing there but it's too far off in the distance to tell if it is. And then the shadow is gone just like that. I gasp, and Leon immediately looks at me.
