Chapter 12: Ever Again

"Y'know what, I don't want to see your face ever again!"

Did Magna just tell me that? Magna Swing, my best friend and rival ever since we both joined the squad and met. I couldn't believe I would ever come to this day... I felt... empty. Yes, that was the word to describe it. I never thought this day would come. He... doesn't want to see me again.

"But... I was just trying to warn you..." My voice was soft as if I was too shocked to speak up.

"Don't talk to me, either!" Magna angered.

I stood there for a few seconds, tears started forming in my eyes, but I turned my head quickly so he wouldn't be able to see my tears. I didn't want him to start seeing me as weak. "Then...!" I tried gaining the courage to finish my sentence. "Then have it your way...!" My voice trailed off and it hurt to say that to Magna of all people. If he didn't want me near him, then I wouldn't be near him. As simple as that. I'm done with walking on eggshells. I'll just keep my distance.

I ran away. I didn't look back. I just ran away. When I was running, I accidentally ran into Vanessa. "Woah, kiddo! Are you alright?"

"I'm done with trying!" I said as I tried to run away from her. Unfortunately, she grabbed me by my Black Bulls' robe before I could run. "Let go of me!" I unintentionally snapped.

"Hey, hey, hey. I can tell something happened. Please, don't conceal it in your heart any longer. I don't want to see you hurt." She said pleadingly.

"I..." I looked at her and my eyes began disobeying me again. Tears fell down my face. "...I don't want to talk to anyone about it right now..."

She bent down to me. "Y'know you can tell me, right?"

"Yeah... but I might later." I'll admit, I just said that to get rid of her. I always respected Vanessa, and she cared about me, but I don't want to talk to anyone about this. They shouldn't know. For me and Magna's sake. She watched as I ran away towards the base.

I was, once again, stopped by more squadmates. Asta and Noelle, of course. I didn't want them to catch me running back into the base. But unfortunately, they did.

"Luck? Where are you going?" Asta asked. He noticed that there were visible tears in my eyes. "Are you okay?"

"Did something happen?" Noelle asked.

I was grateful that they cared, but I didn't have time for this. "I'm... fine." I lied. I repeated the same lie that I've been saying every time. Everyone probably doesn't believe it by now.

"Oh... you don't want to talk about it?" Asta asked.

"No," I replied as I walked past them and into the Base.

"Ah, the battle-freak just walked in. Haven't seen you around much lately." Said Gauche. I didn't know he was in there!

"G-Gauche! I th-think that's k-kind o-of mean!" Grey told him. Why is it so hard to avoid conversations with anyone?! The squad is all over the place!

"It's alright. I'm sure he didn't take it personally. I wonder why you haven't been hanging around us lately though." Gauche noticed my face. I tried to hide my signs of crying, but turns out I failed. "You okay? I don't think I've ever seen you cry before and I've been in this squad longer than you have."

"I'm fine." I repeated.

"Y-you sure?" Grey asked.

"Yes." I sounded dismissive.

"O-okay,"

They watched as I walked into the hallway. I hope I don't run into anyone else. I was looking down, not paying any attention as to where I was going. And then...

Slam

I've got to stop tempting fate! I looked up and saw that I had bumped into Zora. Wow, the best person to run into! Great. Just great.

"Watch where you're runnin', Berserker." He said as he looked down at me.

"Ha... ha?" I hesitated, trying to sound happy but it didn't sound so enthusiastic.

"You never change." He shook his head. "And what's up with your face? Have you been cryin' or somethin'?"

"...No...?" I lied.

"Mhm, and you'd expect me to believe that," Zora rolled his eyes.

"Can I please pass through?"

"Why?"

"I just need to get to my room. I want to take a nap." Another lie.

"That's odd. If I know you well enough, you seem to never take naps unless you've been fightin' someone lately. So you want me to believe that you want to nap right now?" He's being difficult.

"Zora, please? You can't keep me from getting to my room!" I snapped.

"Then prove it."

"Sure." I activated my lightning boots and bounced from wall to wall on the hallway until I zoomed over his head before he could stop me at literal lightning speed. I also dodged a trap that he had set there earlier. I turned to look at him and forced a smile. "You'll have to do better than that to stop me."

"I thought I would finally catch you in my traps for once. You really are quick to act, aren't you?" Zora chuckled, turned around, and walked away. Phew... I wouldn't have to deal with him now. Now I can't run into anyone else... I hope.

I then felt a force conceal my mouth suddenly. I couldn't breathe. "Mmm...!" I struggled and tried to yell.

"Try to scream, but once you do... I'll kill you."
