Chapter 4: A New Friend

"Hey guys! I think I found something!" Asta yelled over at us.

"Really?!" Noelle asked.

Asta picked up something that was cylinder-shaped. "Do you think this could be it?"

"It's shiny!" I commented.

"No doubt that's it." Magna said.

"Ooh, looks delicate." Clovis said.

"We should find a way to get back down so we could hand it to Captain Yami, and fast before the Diamond Kingdom mages get here." Magna suggested.

"I think I got an idea." I smirked.

Because of my genius idea, we got to the point where Noelle was carrying Asta in her Valkyrie Dress and was zooming down, I was carrying Magna as I used my Holy Lightning Boots to prance down the mountain, and Clovis was using his ice magic to get down himself. The guy was super talented. Magna was covering his eyes in fear the whole way down. I always knew Magna had a phobia of heights. This may be a whole new level for him.

When we reached land, I let go of Magna. He sat on the ground, relieved that we had landed. Noelle let go of Asta as well, and Clovis landed as well.

"So you're all done here? Well... I better get going then..." Clovis was about to turn around until Asta's voice stopped him.

"Hey, you have nowhere else to go, do you?" He asked.

Clovis turned to look at him. "No... I'm technically a loner."

"Then you should come with us! I don't see why Captain Yami would have a problem with it. And I'd hate to leave you here all alone–"

"There you go again, Dorksta! Running your big mouth!" Noelle snapped.

"Ooh, I'd actually love to come along! If you guys don't mind..." Clovis's voice trailed off.

Magna, Noelle, and I exchanged glances and Magna and Noelle shrugged. "I guess it'd be fine. We'd love to have you there." Magna concluded.

"Great!" Clovis said with excitement.

Magna brought out his communication device and called HQ. "Hey, Finral, you there?"

"You guys are done?! Did any of you get hurt?" Finral asked through the device in a concerned tone.

"We–We're fine." Magna said. "Can you come here? We're done and have the magic item now. We need to return to the base–"

"Alright, I'll be there." Then Finral hung up.

"Guess we'll have to wait for him." Noelle said.

"Shouldn't take long. He'll just need to transport himself to the nearest place from here and come over and pick us up." Magna assured us.

"While we wait... wanna fight me, Magna?!" I asked. No harm in having a little fun, right?

"This isn't the time, you cheery berserker!" Magna snapped.

"Wait–" Clovis turned to me. "Are you Luck the Cheery Berserker? The one who went rougher than necessary against your opponent during the exams in your village? I knew I recognized your name from somewhere..."

"Mhm." I nodded awkwardly.

Magna walked over to me and wrapped an arm around my shoulders. "That may be true, but Luck's power is no joke. He may still be insane but not that insane. You could say he's better than that now. Right, Luck?"

"I almost killed a bandit the other day!" I replied jokingly.

"I don't think you should say something like that when someone's trying to defend you here." Magna said in an irritated tone.

"Haha!" I replied. That made all four of them laugh. I think I handled that well.

"S-sorry you guys had to wait..." said Finral's voice as he appeared from the forest beside us.

"Mister Finral!" Asta yelled. "You're finally here!"

"You look awful." Noelle commented. She was right: Finral had leaves and branches stuck in his hair and bits of his clothes torn. He also looked exhausted.

"Well, that's what happens when you get kicked by Captain Yami through your own portal which was accidentally planted in the sky and fall into the trees and have to make an effort to get out of a tree your clothes got caught in..." Finral sighed. "I'm not making a mistake like that again. Captain Yami's too scary." He then turned and noticed Clovis standing there. "Oh... who's this?"

"A new friend!" Asta smiled proudly.

Clovis stepped forward and lent his hand out to Finral. "Hello, I'm Clovis Andino, and I take it you're Finral Roulacase of the Vaude family?"

Finral awkwardly shook his hand. "How do you know who I am?"

"Well I travel a lot, and I heard things about many kinds of people. You and Luck were two people who interested me the most from what I heard. And who can forget the Vaude prince who's going to marry a woman from House Kira?" Clovis smiled.

"Um... the next head of House Vaude isn't going to be me anyways... I left the family as my decision. It's mostly going to be my younger step-brother who's going to marry Lady Finesse."

"Don't look down on yourself. You still have much to achieve. Anyways, they said I can come with you all to your base, since I have nowhere to go." Clovis really knows... a lot more than I thought he knew for sure. He's really smart.

"Oh? I don't think Captain Yami will have a problem with it... perhaps. I guess we can let you come." Finral said as he opened the portal to the base. "Now, get in. We don't have all day. I can only hold this portal open for so long..."

"ALRIGHT!" Asta yelled obnoxiously with the magic item in his hands as he ran into the portal. Noelle shook her head in disappointment as she followed. Magna went into it next before Clovis. I ran in it last and Finral followed behind me.

Glad we got to make a new friend.
