Here are some things you did not know about Wishes.
1. It was originally named The Wish. But, then I realized that the characters don't really share the same wants, so I made it plural. Wishes.
2. In the early drafts, Wishes was going to be an "after happily ever after" story. Unless you haven't seen Into the Woods, Act 2, or the latter half of it is just that! But, I thought it would be more interesting to combine Act 1 and Act 2. The characters are about to get their happily ever after's, when the story suddenly takes a turn. However, they still end up getting their happy endings at the very end, with an even bigger lesson learned.
3. I don't go into great detail when explaining a character's looks. I feel that everyone has a different imagination, and should see the characters through their own eyes. No specific ethnicity. No limits to imagination.
4. This was never an intention. When Ella says "I wish", she is on the kitchen floor with rags of her mother's nightgown. In the prologue of the musical, Into the Woods, Cinderella sings "I wish" while cleaning the kitchen floor. And when Jack says "I wish", he is sitting next to his cow, Milky White. In the musical, Jack sings "I wish" while milking (or trying to milk) Milky White. Trust me, I had never thought of that while writing those chapters.
5. For Ella's character, I can relate her to myself. Unlike others, I tend to treat even stuffed animals with care. Actually, I used to talk to them! And surprisingly, though I'm not that clumsy all the time, I have a problem with stairs. In fact, I have tripped over the stairs in my house twice in one day!
6. The character Little Red was partially based on the character Pinkie Pie from the hit show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Always interested in sweets, she is the comedian of the story.
7. The character Jack was partially based on the character Tom Canty from Mark Twain's classic, the Prince and the Pauper. He's kind, he's a dreamer, and he's a prince at heart.
8. This story (and all of the upcoming sequels) are in the magic book's point of view. You are "the Reader".
9. Though there really wasn't any singing in this book, there will be in all of the sequels.
