Jack never realized how athletic he could be. Apparently he was, because it only took him a few minutes to race out of the forest. It could be partly because he was so eager to see Milky White again.
Jack soon found himself in the center of the market. He looked all around him, but couldn't find Milky White. He then heard someone crying. He turned toward the noise and saw... his mother.
Jack ran up to his miserable mother. She looked up. Her eyes looked frightened, and yet vacant, as if she had lost something. There was a large bruise on her forehead. She was muttering something. The only words Jack could make out were, "The cow... banged me... it... away... woods..."
Jack helped his mother up on her feet. He reassured her, "I'll find him."
"Her," she corrected him.
"Alright, her. Just get home safely."
After making sure his mother could stand up, Jack ran through the huddled crowd of villagers in the cold mist, straight back into the woods. He muttered, "Him."
