Sunlight peaked through the curtains of Dahyun's quarters. It was already morning, yet the young woman continued sleeping soundly against the lush velvety sheets of her bed.
"Princess Dahyun, it's time to wake up." A short-haired girl with large feline-like eyes pulled and tied the curtains aside, letting more of the sunlight it in the luxurious white and gold-themed room.
Dahyun stirred in her sleep, a soft groan passing her lips. She was half-awake, yet her eyes remained screwed shut. She still needed a few more minutes or an hour more of sleep to regain her energy from last night's travel.
"Princess..." The woman's eyebrows knit in frustration. She walked towards her bed and leaned down, gently shaking her by the shoulders.
"Chaeyoung..." Dahyun groaned, eyes cracking open to see the maid's face hovering over her. "How many times must I tell you? Please, do not call me 'princess'. We are of the same age, and I treat you far from a maid." She gently rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand, fighting the sleep that wished to lure her back to bed.
"Because it's simply in your nature, Princess. You are kind to everyone even to those who cross you." Chaeyoung pulled away and stood back up straight with her hands resting behind her back. "And the head maid will surely berate me if she heard me speaking informally to you."
Dahyun sighed as she sat up and scooted over to the edge of the bed. There was no fighting it. Although she was technically higher in position, Chaeyoung still answered to the orders of their senior maid, who strictly followed the orders of the Queen and King.
"Now, now. We cannot act slow today. The Queen is requesting for your presence." Chaeyoung held her small hands in her own and carefully pulled her up before leading her to the bathroom.
There, Chaeyoung helped her bathe, which she consistently hated with every fiber of her being. She was already more than old enough to clean herself. Yet, it was written by the rules that a member of the royal family mustn't do any dirty work. They only had to eat, sleep, study, and lead their kingdom from harm and into a richer future.
So, here she was, being assisted by Chaeyoung into her dress. Dahyun was holding her lustrous black hair to the side as Chaeyoung fixed her corset from behind when Dahyun suddenly let out a grunt. She could barely breathe with the way she tightened it around her abdomen. "Too much, Chaeyoung." She said in a whisper, hands gripping on her own hair tightly.
"My deepest apologies." Chaeyoung quickly loosened the strings, and Dahyun breathed out in relief.
Chaeyoung tightened it not because Dahyun had gained weight, she already had a perfect figure. But it was because she was nervous. The Queen had requested Dahyun to meet her as soon as possible, and it sounded as if she needed to discuss something urgent to her. If she were late, the blame will be put on her as her personal maid. So, her hands were incredibly shaky as she worked through the strings and fabric of her clothes.
Dahyun soon finished getting ready, and she immediately headed out of her chambers with Chaeyoung tailing her. She was wearing a blue gown that further defined her slender waist and complimented her pale skin. A few pieces of her hair were also pulled back and were clipped in place with dainty accessories. Although it may seem over the top, it was the norm for Dahyun with her being part of one of the most influential families in the world.
"Mother." Dahyun bowed as soon as she set foot inside the dining room.
A feast was already prepared.
Dahyun walked further inside, the palace guards closing the doors for her. She was then kissed by her mother on the cheek once she reached the end of the table.
