Silhouette – Kim Taehyung (Requested)

Summary: Kim Taehyung thinks his eyes are playing tricks on him, but the silhouette he's been seeing finally appears before him in broad daylight.

Tick. Tock.

The sound of the early Victorian Vienna clock ticking away awoke Taehyung from his slumber.

"Again...?" Taehyung huskily muttered to himself as he lifted his head from his arms, which were folded on the table. "I should really stop doing this..." He sat up, back now leaning against the plush backrest of his seat as he gingerly stretched his aching arms and his neck, which were already feeling sore from the way he slept earlier, before he took in his surroundings.

He was at the castle's private study. Numerous books were messily stacked on top of the table and several letters were scattered around the side.

Taehyung has been studying these days. Well, there was honestly never a day where he didn't pick up a book and read. But what he's been reading wasn't about etiquette, world trade, or any of those fancy stuff crowned princes like him should know and master. Instead, he was researching on taboo mythological creatures like mermaids and ogres.

It might sound ridiculous especially to his teachers, but many of their citizens have been reported missing then spotted dead after a few days with blood oozing from their mouths. So, their kingdom called for their best shamans, priests and priestesses, advisors, and scholars to help them.

The shamans reported that an incurable plague was looming their kingdom. The priests and priestesses claimed that there were evil spirits roaming. And the advisors and scholars said that a new type of sickness originating from animals have suddenly emerged. But none of them were able to pinpoint as to what caused this bloodbath in the first place even after heavy and prolonged hours of investigation and experimentation.

As the next king, Taehyung felt obligated to help solve the case even though his father has told him to not meddle with it to keep him safe. But he couldn't help it. They were also his citizens, and he felt responsible for their deaths as well whenever he restrained himself from doing anything to help. In turn, he found himself slumped in his chair with thick books up by his nose before he would accidentally drift off to sleep till midnight.

Standing up, he closed the thick book he was busy reading hours ago and stacked it on top of the others before gathering the various sealed envelopes on the table. They were brought by one of the castle's private messengers from different times of the day, but he didn't pay any mind to it because he knew what they contained.

Marriage proposals.

Taehyung cringed at the thought of receiving so many.

Since his coronation, he's been receiving marriage proposals from near and far kingdoms. It was odd for a prince to be receiving them because male royalties were typically the ones who would do so. But him? He somehow had every princess wrapped around his little finger even without doing anything. However, neither of his parents rushed him.

Taehyung was perfectly capable of ruling the kingdom with his years of study. And he was a male, too, one that was thought of highly by anyone he turns to. But he wasn't exactly looking towards marriage.

Sure, he was already 25 years old, but he had his eyes set on ruling the kingdom. He wanted to be the best one there is and maybe surpass his own father's expertise. So, he never read any of them and simply let them lay in one of his drawers along with the other forgotten letters. And it seemed like he'll have a few new additions to his collection.
