Screaming, the voice bounced around his head. Everywhere he turned was blood and ash and debris.
He couldn't breathe, couldn't talk, couldn't scream. The voice drew closer and closer and closer.
He wanted to run, wanted to hide or fight or do anything but he was frozen as the voice drew nearer.
She was in the voice's hand, held by her neck, arms limp by her side as the voice laughed. "You're too late, boy. You did nothing and now she's gone. This is your fault." The voice laughed, the screams grew louder.
He knew those screams. He knew that voice.
"Denki! Denki wake up!"
I watched fearfully as Denki snapped away, screaming and sobbing in my arms.
"Shush, it's okay. It was just a nightmare. It's okay." I ran my fingers through his hair, holding him and soothing him.
His eyes, so bloodshot and afraid, stared up at me. "Izuku? Whose Haya?"
Pausing, ice froze my reins. Haya Kaminari. A girl who is dead. Denki's sister.
"I don't know. I don't know anyone by that name. You must have made it up." Placing a gentle kiss on his forehead, I suppressed the guilt that tried to claw at my insides.
This is for the best.
He can never remember.
