An earthquake trembled the Casita. Tiles shaking, pictures trembling. The Casita was crumbling.
And Mirabel could feel it.
For this was the earthquake of 1958 that struck Equador and Colombia. While everyone was evacuated outside, Mirabel was anxiously looking for Bruno.
"Tío Bruno!! BRUNO!!", Mirabel anxiously called out.
He was in the walls, getting everything. He grabbed all of his rats and they scurried outside. He grabbed his paintings and some other important things and ran. As he slid down the stairs, he saw Mirabel in the foyer of the Casita, trying to look for him.
"Mirabel!! I'm here.", Bruno said. The two hugged and Mirabel grabbed his hand and they tried to leave. But, rubble blocked the two, in no hope of getting out. Dust covered the two and Mirabel swatted it away.
Then, it hit her.
The tower was going to crash onto Bruno and Mirabel in a matter of minutes. And they were gonna die.
Bruno picked up the thought and he comforted his crying niece, who was on her knees.
"Hey, Mira, its okay. We're not gonna die.", Bruno said in comfort.
Then, the shaking stopped as Mirabel and Bruno were facing each other, standing. A little while later, the quaking began again, this time, more serious. Mirabel began sobbing some more, while Bruno looked at her in total pity.
"Hey, Mirabel, look at me.", he said, cupping her cheek, "Don't cry, okay? We're gonna be okay."
As the buildings began to topple, and Bruno's tower was beginning to crumble and fall, Bruno felt the tight hug of Mirabel. She held onto him tight, as if he was the last person she was ever going to see.
"*voice breaking* I love you, Tío Bruno~~...", Mirabel said, holding him tight.
Bruno, eyes wide, hugged back, tears streaming down his face too. "I love you too, Mirabel. With all my heart."
Mirabel began to cry as the tower started to crumble. But, she instantly thought of her family and a giant boom was heard.
When she left Bruno's embrace, she saw a golden force field that surrounded her and Bruno, holding up the tower. Then, in an instant, the Casita was...rebuilding itself. Bruno saw the whole thing too and noticed that Mirabel's eyes were glowing gold. Then, once the last bits of the Casita was rebuilt, Mirabel was tackled by her family.
It turns out...Mirabel had a Gift. She had the ability to conjure force fields with her hugs and also rebuild things back to its original state. And with the help of Bruno and her family, Mirabel managed to create a giant force field that prevented the Casita from ever breaking again.
