I sprayed the setting spray on my partner, Hannah's, face and smiled in satisfaction. I passed the mirror over to her so as to get her opinion. When I heard her gasp and words of praises, I beamed in pride, knowing I had done well.

The teacher arrived at our station, carefully inspecting the work I had done on Hannah's face and letting out little hums of satisfaction as she studied it. I answered all the questions she had concerning the style and application I had used. When she was satisfied, she gave me a nod of acknowledgment, wrote something on her clipboard, and moved on to the next station.

Hannah and I glanced at each other, sporting matching grins. Today was finals, and everything I had learned for the past six months was riding on the series of tests I would perform today. So far, I had not failed any, but you never know what could happen.

When the teacher finished inspecting everyone's work, she ordered us to clean our stations and partners' faces. As everyone filed out of the room, I went over to where the teacher was sitting, typing a few notes on her laptop.

"Ms. McIntosh?" I said, tentatively and she looked up, curls bouncing as she did so.

"How can I help you?" She asked.

"Um about the apprenticeship-"

She cut me off, "You already know you need an experienced person for you to train under. Have you found someone yet?"

"No, but-"

She cut me off again, "Then we are not having this conversation again. I've already told you this before. My hands are tied, you'll need to find someone yourself."

I sighed, "I understand, thank you," I said and left the classroom.

I knew I needed an experienced person to train under, the problem was that I didn't know any experienced person to train under, and if she would just listen to me for a second before cutting me off then maybe she would understand that.

I was getting tired of this, most of my classmates had already started an apprenticeship or were under programs to help improve their skills, but I still couldn't find any. It was getting quite frustrating, to be honest. It felt like all my dreams and goals were getting further and further away from me.

When I walked into the cafe, the smell of freshly baked pastries immediately filled my senses, and I allowed myself to get lost in it so as to get my mind off my worries. I got changed into my proper work clothes and joined Mari at the counter.

She had just graduated college last month with a degree in Journalism. She was still working here while she awaited the response from the job applications she had sent.

"Hey," She greeted me when I arrived next to her, "How was your day?"

"Hi," I grinned before letting out a sigh, "The same as usual. I still can't get an apprenticeship."
