Seoul (Han River) - January 2015
Kim Taehyung was pretty much over-worked; exhausted and definitely drained, emotionally and physically.
Other boys at his age of nineteen would have spent the dwindling night doing childish things, like see who was first to get completely wasted on alcohol, or mature things like study for their college lectures. Things like catch up with friends over a coffee at the local Starbuck's, or go to the cinema with lovers.
But, of course, Kim Taehyung wasn't like other guys. He was BTS's V; visual, lead vocalist and dancer of Korea's rising boy band. Currently preparing for the groups 'Most Beautiful Moment in life (Part 1)' comeback, the pressure and expectations were taking a toll on him.
Which was why at 12:20am, in a playground overlooking Han River, Taehyung stood quietly watching the January snowflakes cause ripples above the dark water as they fell. This was his night time routine during comebacks; a place and time he would use to unwind and relax. He wouldn't be disturbed in the stillness of the night and he was thoroughly disguised in heavy winter clothing to go unrecognised.
A soft sigh escaped his lips. Though forever grateful for the opportunity he had been blessed with, he still missed life before all the hustle. He missed the fields he grew up around in Daegu. He missed his mum and her cooking. He missed his family. He missed home. This was the second Christmas he spent away from his family, and the emotional toil that brought on him was hard. Taehyung was a simple human being, and although his dream was to be an idol, he didn't truly understand how hard the sacrifices he'd have to go through would be for himself.
And yet, the dream and ambition inside him stubbornly fought on, through the loss and ache, the rage and despair. The times where he wanted to end it all, there was a part of him that defiantly refused.
He looked up to the stars, made a silent prayer, and turned on his heels to return back to his car, when something caught his eye. Sitting on a swing at the other end of the playground, somebody... a girl probably, judging by her petite frame, rocking slightly back and forth. Her shoulders shook and Taehyung could faintly hear quite whimpers. She was crying. He wondered why, and why here, and why now. He'd never run into anyone during his nights here, let alone a girl. A crying girl. He watched her from a distance for some time; she probably thought she was by herself, so approaching her wouldn't be the best idea. Silently leaving would do them both good, but his car would probably startle her. He racked his brains, and the moral part of him argued that she was a girl all by herself outside at an ungodly time and any weird perv could creep up on her, judging by how oblivious to her surroundings she was.
Namjoon hyung would know what to do, he thought to himself. He watched as her body slowly relaxed and she used her mitten-covered hands to wipe her cheeks. He froze as she looked up, her gaze gradually locking in with his. They stared at each other for what felt like forever, before he held up his hand and waved. She didn't return the gesture.
Greaaaat, Kim Taehyung, you're probably scaring her, the annoying voice in his head muttered but he decided to approach her and ask her if she needed any help. Her eyes widened as he neared her, readying herself to flee, so he stopped himself at a safe distance from her. Close enough to hear her, but far enough to give her some assurance.
She does have beautiful eyes, he couldn't deny. She probably didn't recognize him because of his disguise and the mask on his face, as she blinked at him, calculating her situation.
"Hello," he began with a smile she wouldn't even see. "This isn't the best time for a girl like you to be outside. Do you want some help, are you lost?"
She shook her head, saying nothing else.
"Hey, it's okay, I mean no harm," he assured. "I've been coming here every night for some time now. I've never seen you around."
