It's been two weeks since Thanksgiving. Everything is going well between Karishma and Haseena except for the usual disagreements whenever they speak but most of the time they tend to limit their conversations. However, Pushpa Ji and Mr. Onkar had signed their marriage paper in the court on Thursday and they have planned a small gathering for this week's Saturday. It was planned in Puspa Ji's backyard as it's just only close friends and relatives from both sides. It was a busy week for both Karishma and Pushpa Ji; Haseena was trying to help them as much as she could, however, Misha was enjoying all this hustle and bustle around the house.
It was Saturday, almost all the guests had arrived. Pushpa Ji was busy receiving congratulations, Karishma was attending guests, and Haseena still hasn't arrived yet.
"Krish," Karishma heard a familiar voice and she turned to look at the owner of the voice. After looking at Sikander (the supposed EX of Karishma), she turned and started walking in the opposite direction, ignoring him.
"Listen to me, Yaar!" He said it out loud while following her.
"Why? Why should I listen to you?" She said in an irate tone and started walking again.
"I know, you are upset and I'm sorry for disappearing on you like that but listen to me, please," He said as he held her upper arm and dragged her towards the swing under the shade.
"Why should I listen to you? You were my best friend and one day you just decided to disappear, no text, no calls, nothing?" She shrugged off his hand as both of them settled down on the swing.
"The past one year had been very rough on me," he said woefully.
"Why? What happened? Are you hanging between life and death?" She uttered in anger without understanding the gravity of her words.
"I am," He said as he looked at her ruefully.
Karishma turned towards him in shock. "You are joking. Right?" She wants to deny what she has just heard.
"No, I am not. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year when I was going for my medical screening for a new job. It appeared to be in a much more advanced stage when I was diagnosed. I have seen the oncologist and as per her suggestion, I have done all the treatments but nothing seems to be working. So, I just stopped everything two months ago," He said while placing his hand on the swing behind Karishma.
"You are kidding? You have a habit of pulling these stupid pranks on me. Is this one of your stupid plans to seek forgiveness? If it is, I forgive you. Please, tell me it's not true," She asked him once again as her eyes started tearing up.
"I so wish Krish, it's one of my stupid pranks but it's not," He said while placing his hand on her cheek and trying to wipe off her tears.
"But you don't get prostate cancer until you are sixty or reaching old age. It's very rare in young males," She asked as her voice started breaking up.
"You are right," He said, "But it's true if you don't have a bad gene. It was genetic in my case," he looked at her with a melancholic smile, "the very same genes I used to be proud of, for my intelligence and my looks," his voice became low.
"We can get a second opinion," Karishma said, still in denial.
"It doesn't matter, how many opinions I'll get, the results will remain the same, and don't forget I'm a doctor myself," He said clearing her doubts.
