"Where do I get a daylight ring?" Allison asks with a slight wince from the peeking rays after my explanation of the sun and moon curse.
After leaving the school's premises a few hours ago, I went into grave detail about what to expect from being a vampire. Of course, after her long reunion with her father. I'm unaware of what they discussed, and okay with never knowing. But if it were bad, she would have told me about it by now. Discussing the daylight ring tells me all I need, and want, to know, which is that she will be pressing the eternal life of a vampire.
I close her curtains tightly together to contain as much light as I can from her large bedroom window, "I must find a witch to spell one for you. This puts a damper on having one made for you since I have been tucked away in a box for almost a century. Kol and I have connections with witches that have not been as easy to find as they used to be." I sigh and twist to face the dark-haired girl sitting on her bed with her legs crossed, "Considering my brother was the charmer and practically got everything he wanted with that dashing smile and hidden truths. Not many witches desire to kneel at mine nor my sibling's feet. Howbeit, I had caught wind of one from my past when searching a few weeks ago in my efforts to retrieve answers for Kol. I, however, neglected to visit her since my emotions had dissipated after my knowledge of her. So, today I will travel to her to... persuade her into making one. I suggest you choose something not tacky."
"So," she drawls out, ignoring the insult to her jewelry choices. Lydia would have agreed with me, though. "I won't be out in the sun ever again."
"Hey," I throw at her. "I will retrieve your ring. I simply need time. I don't have a witch to beckon my every call. The girl, Aurora Rist, resides in Illinois. We will get you a ring one way or another."
"You mean compel?"
"Not quite," I smirk. Eventually, I will teach her more about compulsion and how witches are unable to be brought under our spells. "But we shall see."
"Renee," She begins to scold until I cut her off. "Don't fret. I merely intend to discuss in some sort of agreement. An eye for an eye and whatnot."
She sends me a look but remains quiet. I don't need to confirm her suspicions of me threatening the little witch's life. I promised myself that I would be better, and I plan to follow through with that. However, I will not brush the lesser options under the rug if an opportunity presents itself.
"You will have your ring and go back to a normal life. Maybe like patching things up with Scott..." I hint at.
Her gaze falls to her bedspread at the mention of his name, "I wouldn't know what to say to him."
Her fingers play with the bright sheet, distracted by her thoughts of Scott. I suppose with their history, they are a bit more complicated than that. And with Kira now in the picture, she may have competition. Not that I would consider her to be so with Allison and him having history versus him and Kira having just met. He still sent her longing looks while Kira merely had eyes for him alone. I may feel guilty for what I had put her through, but I've put others through worse and I will support my friend any day over a new girl in town.
"Maybe you should start with the truth," I suggest as I sit on the end of the bed. I dip the mattress lower, using my feet to support myself, and look over at her. "Tell him you meant what you said. He told you months ago he would wait for you. Why would he change his mind now? He had been a mess knowing that you died that night. He loves you, Allison. Don't push him away again. You can finally be happy. Why miss the opportunity to have a happy ending?"
