"Renee," a voice whispers as a finger taps the top of my right shoulder. I wake up instantly, hopeful to find the voice belonging to Isaac. Disappointment fills me though, as I find him still unconscious. Luckily, with minimal injuries now. He must have healed some while I was resting.

Turning my head to my right, Melissa stands behind me, looking skeptical. Probably from her internal debate on waking me up or not. I scan my eyes over her, finding her in her nursing uniform. She must be here as his nurse and not a friend then. I don't recall her being his scheduled nurse, but she must have found out I compelled his assigned doctor to leave us be and took matters into her own hands. She did take him under her wing by giving him his own room in her home. She must think of him as a son to do all of this for him.

He has been protective of her in the past. And in the beginning I thought it had to be because she is Scott's mother. But I suppose it's due to him thinking of her as a mother figure. Family.

"I'm sorry to wake you," she apologizes with a smile that doesn't quite meet her eyes. "But I'm going to need his hand to check his vitals."

I look down at the hand she gestured to and find it trapped within mine. I release him to her and take a step back as she begins her tests to update his file on his improvements. Thankfully, she is aware of the supernatural and knows how to keep his speedy recover hidden from the others here.

He will be pleased to know she had cared for him. Within twenty-four hours, his skin has almost fully healed from the burn marks. Though, he still hasn't woken up.

"Do you know when he will come to?" I ask her as she finishes her check up.

"It's hard to say," she answers turning to face me. "For a human, they wouldn't have made it through those doors still breathing. For a werewolf...I don't know. He seems to be healing slower than usual, but he is healing. He's made enough improvement to be able to move to the lower floor now. We just need to give him more time."

"Thank you," I nod, accepting that I have to stay patient with his process of supernatural healing. "And thank you for the other time you took care of him, as well. I never got a chance to voice my appreciation for that."

She nods, but I don't stop there, "I'm also sorry for almost killing your son. I... I'm sorry."

That slight smile returns to her lips and she says, "You should go home and get some rest. We'll take care of Isaac."

"I'd rather stay here and wait," I decline turning back to Isaac now. "It's best that I stay here and wait."

He hasn't stirred in his sleep in hours and I wonder if it is because the pain has diminished. I've been regularly taking his pain every hour and maybe it has helped improve his healing process.

I move to go sit in the chair that is placed extremely close to Isaac, but before I sit down she speaks again, "Renee, I understand you want to be here, but they need you out there."

I look at her confused, "Who would need me?"

"Didn't Scott call you?" She asks with furrowed brows.

"I don't have my phone," I answer remembering how I had left in a hurry to get to the hospital.

"Go help them," she orders softly, her brows now raised. Just as I would picture a mother to be, or wished what my mother could have been; gentle, yet stern because she cares. She wants me to help her son, and if that is what I need to do to redeem myself to her and the pack, then so be it.

I was so distracted by Isaac, I had overlooked any other issues happening outside of the hospital. I don't want to leave his side, but he is in good hands while Melissa is here.
