Jared teleported him, Nadia, and Calvin right next to Mari and D.D.

“Hi,” Jared tried to be a turtle and stick his head back into his shell. “Sorry about before…”

“Mari told me what happened with your friend Dex, being here and then seeing me; I can’t even begin to imagine what you must have been thinking,” D.D gave him a small hug.

“Thanks,” Jared said. “Hey, where’s Devin?” Jared looked around.

“One of his friends spotted him and dragged him into the crowd,” Mari said. “Devin was so happy.”

“You never told me how you ended up in this little gang of yours,” D.D pushed. “How did you end up with a First Year?”

“That’s a long story,” Jared said. “But he’s like a little brother to us now.”

“That’s all that really matters,” Mari added.

“Yeah, okay,” D.D rolled her eyes.

“So what is this?” Nadia gestured to everything around her.

“Ah, someone won a card game with one of the Market Place’s owners and we got a ton of free food and drink. We, like, couldn’t let it go to waste, ya know?” D.D explained.

“Even with what yesterday was?” Nadia asked. “When Krilitrox attacked the Central Library and all those people lost their lives, and…” And the day we found the Legend.

“We paid our respects the day before and yesterday,” D.D said. “Not everyone is here right now. Only about a third of the students came out here, the rest are in their rooms.”

“Oh, sorry if I su-suggested anything!” Nadia felt a little embarrassed.

“See? Told you it wasn’t completely gone,” Mari laughed. “Get her the tiniest bit flustered and it comes out.”

“Good to know,” Jared gave a toothy smile.

“Ahhhhh!” A scream came from within the crowd.

Calvin made the crowd part so Jared, Mari, and Nadia could get through. A small circle had been made around a group of boys and a teenager.

“I’ve had enough of your crap Buddy!” Devin stood protectively in front of three boys and had his sword pointed at his former bully. “Leave my friends alone!”

“Easy there pal, I was only kidding around,” Buddy tried to play it off cool.

“You almost burned him. You call that kidding around?!” Devin was just about ready to lunge.

“Devin!” Jared teleported in next to his friend, “Lower your sword.”

“Jared Dixen, didn’t think you were still breathing. That sister of yours still walking around too?” Buddy asked sarcastically.

“Oh you can bet your rotten little personality I am,” Mari stood on the other side of Devin. “Jared, we can just let Devin take care of this guy and be done with it.”

“Him? He was a First Year when Krilitrox attacked our school for the second time. He can’t use magic, why do you think he needs this little toy of his?” Buddy laughed.

“If one of you doesn’t shut him up then I will,” Calvin said as he and Nadia walked up. “Be just like those straw dummies me and Jared practiced on.”

“Who’s this punk?” Buddy glared at Calvin.

“Punk? That’s a load of bull coming from you,” Calvin spat back.
