"Jaaaaarrrreeeeedd," Devin whined. "Show me some magic!"
"Don't you have to practice that sword of yours?" Jared had been napping on the ground during their break. Kyree's men had found a small lagoon for everyone to cool off in. Calvin and Mari were currently having a grand time in the water. Nadia was next to shore with a barrier around her to keep her Book from getting wet. She was trying to teach herself the Ancient Tongue.
"I'm fair enough with it! The whole point of it is to combine both sword and magic techniques into one art." Devin explained. "Messa only showed me how to use the sword effectively with my magic, she never taught me anymore spells. Nadia had to."
"Why not have Nadia show you some more then?" Jared hadn't been in the best of moods that day. The hot sun had made him a bit cranky.
"She's busy decoding the chamber," Devin sighed.
"I'm just not really in a mood to exert any unneeded energy Dev. Can we do it when the temperature drops a bit?" Jared was doing his best not to be rude.
"I guess..." Devin walked away a bit disappointed. He walked around to the other side of the lagoon and looked out at all the people who were having fun. He wanted nothing more than to be in there with them, but Messa had been strict with Devin when it came to training and if he didn't work with his Spell Sword, Messa had named Devin's fighting style for him, he would feel like he was letting her down.
So he unsheathed his sword and began by swinging it fifty times.
"Hey Calvin," Mari looked over at Devin, "why don't you go and spare with Devin? Looks like he needs to let off a little steam."
"Jared probably said no to teach him again." Calvin sighed. "Jared does not work well in hot weather."
"The faster you help Devin with his training, the faster I can go back to hitting you with my water spheres." Mari grinned as she took water from the lagoon and threw it at Calvin.
"Alright, I'm going." Calvin splashed back at her and hurried over to where Devin was.
"Where's your shirt?" First thing to come out of Devin's mouth.
"It's hot and it feels better without it." Calvin said firmly.
"You're just trying to show off for Mari," Devin teased.
"That too," Calvin chuckled. "Anyway, wanna spare? Magical Combat versus Spell Sword let's see who turns out on top."
"I might hurt you," Devin had a playful spark in his eyes.
"Only if you can touch me," Calvin grinned. The two got into their respective stances. Devin held out his sword in front of him and Calvin had two barriers manifest around his forearms to act as guards.
Devin didn't waste a second, he flashed forward and aimed for Calvin's right leg. Calvin side stepped him and softly slapped Devin upside the head. Devin turned around and sent out several sound waves from his sword. Calvin used his barriers guards to protect himself against the attacks. Devin then used the opportunity to get into Calvin's blind spot and landed a hit on Calvin's lower back with the pommel of his sword.
"Oh? Would you look at that," Devin jumped up as Calvin tried to side sweep underneath him. "Touched ya."
"Looks like I can get a little bit serious now," Calvin was having fun. Devin tried to back up, but Calvin had created a barrier behind him and stopped him in his tracks. Calvin then shot forward and threw punch after punch at Devin. Devin did all he could do to block in the restricted space he had been forced into.
