It took Jared two weeks to get into Boreas' fighting shape, with a little help from the Legend of course. Calvin on the other hand took three weeks.
"You pass." Boreas smiled down at the exhausted Calvin.
"Finally!" Calvin threw his hands in the air and let his sweaty body hit the ground.
"You're quite the natural born fighter," Boreas squatted down to Calvin's level.
"Ha! Up until now I've had to fight for my survival while protecting those around me." Calvin laughed. Both he and Jared agreed on their backstory should anyone ask. It was their actual story expect they left out everything about magic and the Legend.
"Hahaha! So you do have some experience in actual fighting." There was a touch of relief in his voice. "Most of these kids are street fighters."
"I've noticed." Calvin used his elbows to prop himself up and looked around the area where everyone else was sparring with one another. He laid his eyes on Jared and watched the ending to his fight which never lasted long these days. Jared got jumped up to avoid being kicked and then kicked the boy he was fighting in the throat. The surprise was enough to knock the kid over and made him stay on the ground. The two had figured out that the recruits hadn't experienced a minute's worth of battle with their lives actually on the line. So one swift punch or kick that could actually kill a person to their opponent and they stayed down.
"Wh...What the hell!" The guy, Remy, yelled at Jared. "You could've killed me!"
"Get used to it," Jared was just done with all the people around them. All they had been talking about was actually getting out and becoming mercenaries, saying who's probably going to kill the most or die first.
"Jared!" Zoe walked up to him. "We are not here to kill one another!"
"We're here to kill others right?" Jared glared at her. "If we're willing to kill others we should be willing to die ourselves." He didn't bother waiting for a response and jogged over to Calvin.
"Your niece isn't too happy with the way I've been fighting," Jared sighed.
"She thinks we need to take it slow." Boreas agreed. "But that's all about to change."
"Huh?" Calvin looked up at Boreas.
"You'll both like this, I promise," He winked. He called everyone over the them and Zoe stood next to him as she always did. "Now that everyone is at a satisfactory level, it's time to commence phase two of our project."
If it's more running I'm going to kick his ass. Calvin thought to Jared.
"You've been lied to, by the leading expert in the art of magic Trajare." Boreas began. "You do not have a limited amount of time to learn magic, there is no window."
Oh no. The reality of what Boreas was saying hit Jared.
"You can learn to wield magic at any time in your life." Boreas had a certain smile on his face that made it seem like he just cracked the meaning to life itself.
Liar!! Jared kept screaming inside his head.
"Zoe is proof of this statement. A year ago she couldn't even create a flicker of a flame and now," He gestured over to her and she held out her hand and a ball of flame ignited in her palm.
A Second Year could do that with a bit of teaching! Jared was just barely being able to keep his facial composure.
I thought you said that students didn't start learning any real spells until their third year. Calvin thought to Jared.
