The only thing to be heard in the dead of night was feet slapping against the ground and heavy breathing.
"It's all my fault..." Calvin panted.
Earlier that week...
"Kyree?" Mari ringed the water out of her hair. The five had just come back from the temple. Their horses and things were still there but Kyree wasn't.
"I'll find him." Calvin brought up his tracking circle and saw blip roughly three miles away. "Be back in a few!" Calvin waved off then flashed off. When he found his friend, Kyree was staring at the water's surface. "What on Magistrax are you doing out here?"
"Huh?" Kyree quickly turned around and saw that Calvin stood over him. "Oh, I needed to walk sometime last night and found myself here." Kyree laughed it off. "You five sure took your time."
"How long were we gone for?" Calvin helped Kyree onto his feet.
"About four days, you find what you all were looking for?" Kyree brushed the sand off his pants.
"That and a hell of a lot more, I'll tell ya when we get back to the rest." Calvin placed his hand on Kyree's shoulder and Flashed them back.
"Kyree, you're gonna love this," Jared smiled.
"Let's talk as we move. I'm sure you guys are eager to get back." Kyree loaded everything onto the horses.
"Oh yeah, I doubt Rocco thought we'd be gone for so long." Jared helped Nadia and Devin onto a horse.
"But damn, will he be happy to hear about everything we found." Mari got onto another.
"I bet Icarus will be interested in some of the writings you found," Nadia said to Mari.
"Who?" Kyree asked.
"Ah that's right, you don't know about the Lost Republic do you?" Jared mentally face palmed himself. "They're the people who told us about the Temple of Creation. We would have never met you if it hadn't been for them."
"It's soo cool!" Devin grinned. "It's an underground city! You'll get to meet all our friends."
"Can't wait," Kyree hopped onto his horse. They set off towards the door they had exited from. Along the way, they all took turns in telling Kyree what they found and even about himself.
"I'm...I'm a descendant of Aftemath?" Kyree looked stunned.
"Direct descendant, your original mission had been to safe guard the location of the Temple of Creation and guide the chosen to it when the time came." Calvin bragged. "But looks like the message got twisted along the way."
"Yeah..." Kyree looked as if he was in deep thought. "Now I'm wishing I had gone with you all."
"Don't worry, we intend to come back." Mari said. "There's so much in that place that it was hard to leave."
"I can imagine." Kyree forced a smile.
The trip out of the desert was much shorter than into it since they all knew where they were going. It had only taken them five days to reach the end of it.
"Just a bit further until we reach the entrance," Calvin said as he checked his tracking circle.
"Stop." Mari suddenly ordered. She jumped off her horse and crept forward a few more feet.
"You felt them too?" Nadia asked as she came next to Mari.
"They could just be some travelers." Jared said.
