Eijeh stared at the parchments his hands, waiting for something to happen. He wasn't quite sure what. Something magical would be good.
"Please, let this not be a joke. Please. Tell me this isn't a joke." His voice was husky from lack of use. How long had he been asleep, in this room or elsewhere, before he woke up here? The corner of the parchment lit up, catching his eye. There was a small, green symbol in the corner. Eijeh leant closer in order to make it out. It was a padlock seared into the parchment, and as he watched it changed. It went from locked to unlocked, as though someone had turned a key. "Huh? What happened?" His hand felt strangely warm, warmer than was normal. It was probably just he was sweating, nervous to find out who he was. He glanced down. "AHHH!!! WHAT THE— WHAT'S HAPPENING?!" He stared at his now flaming hand, completely panicking. "WATER WATER WATER I NEED WATER WHAT'S HAPPENING OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!" Now his other hand was ablaze, too. Why was he on fire?! Was this the goal of the letter, to burn him to a crisp?! But wait. The strange thing was...Eijeh didn't feel any pain. "What the..." He froze. As he became calmer, the flames died down too. It was like they were responding to him, to his emotions. "Okayyyyy...This is not creepy at all. I signed a form for a weird school and now I have magic fire. Just a normal day." He decided to try something else. He mustered all the anger he could, and the flames instantly burnt hotter, brighter, yearning for something to cremate. "Huh." He grinned. "I guess I can live with that." The flames flickered encouragingly, as if to say 'Go on. Try something else.' The newly appointed pyrokinetic looked around the room. It was small, but not uncomfortable. A chest of drawers, a bed, the table next to it where he'd found the pen and letter when he awoke, and a long mirror were the only things in the room. A small door to his right was labeled "Bathroom". Classes were sure to start at some point soon otherwise they'd all starve to death within a matter of weeks. What did he have to lose, really?Three hours later, Eijeh lay on his bed, exhausted. Who knew it would take that much energy to burn a few things to ashes? And extinguishing everything had been no small feat either. A crackling noise attracted his attention and he bolted upright. Had he left something burning by accident? But no. It was a voice coming from a hidden speaker somewhere in the room. "Hello, students and welcome to The School. My name is Maya Kaizeh, known as Principal Kaizeh. Congratulations on a successful Unlocking, and if you weren't aware, it's the 16th, meaning classes commence tomorrow morning, after a welcoming ceremony. Sleep well, students." The voice cut off. Eijeh frowned. Students, plural. Other people, other people like him were going to be there tomorrow. He beamed. He'd have friends, maybe even better friends than— He suddenly felt nauseous. His vision swam in and out and suddenly he couldn't breathe. His whole body shook as he realised, with growing horror, the truth. He couldn't remember his friends. His family. His life. The School had done something to him, and he was going to find out what. Suddenly eerily calm, he lay back down, closed his eyes and drifted off, dreaming of blank faces calling his name.
