The first thing Eijeh noticed about Principal Maya Kaizeh was that she was short. Very short. About the height of a table, and that was with the grey hair (she didn't even look that old, Eijeh suspected it was dyed for that ancient headmistress look) piled on top of her head. But despite this, she instantly commanded respect. Everyone had instantly stopped chattering and was staring at the principal with awe. Well, everyone except for a couple of kids that looked a few years older than them who were whispering together. Principal Kaizeh noticed this, and called out, "Before I begin, it seems Vesper D'Arque has something to say." She glared at the group of kids and the kid who seemed to be the leader, presumably Vesper, stood up.
"Well, Principal, we were just planning to burn down the school. You okay with that?" She smirked, and right on cue, a scattering of people in the audience giggled and someone behind Eijeh snorted.
"Very interesting, but please leave your plans for now. This goes for all of you. Understood?" They nodded, and Vesper responded with "Well, I suppose we'll have plenty of time later. Please continue, Principal Kaizeh." Eijeh stared, mouth open in shock. Who was this Vesper, to think they could dismiss the principal like that? Surely this wouldn't go unpunished. But it did, and Maya Kaizeh continued to speak.

"Students, welcome. To those of you who just joined us, welcome to your new home. As you know, I am in charge of this place and have been for 32 years. Now that you have experienced the Unlocking, you will hopefully have had some practice with your ability. In class, you will learn many things, among them how to control your powers."

She spoke for what seemed like hours, and Eijeh ended up zoning out, letting her voice wash over him. What about his missing memories? Surely there was a way to get them back. And Vesper's last name...D'Arque. Why did that sound familiar?

"Hey, you. Oi. Budget Dracula. Hey. Hey! Wake up!"
"What?" Eijeh rubbed his eyes sleepily.
"I wanna talk to you. We're supposed to be socialising."
Eijeh sat up. "Fine. Wait. You're Vesper D'Arque, right? That surname sounds familiar..."
Vesper laughed, an airy sound. "Well, I should hope so. Your sitting next to my little sibling, after all."
At the mention of xyr name, Hayden grinned. Xe had the same aura of sleepiness that Eijeh assumed surrounded him. "Let me guess. We fell asleep. Hey, sis. Eijeh, this is my sister Vesper. She/her."
"Hey. Already got yourself a boyfriend, huh?" She grinned when both Eijeh and Hayden went crimson, the colour clashing horribly with Hayden's hair. Xyr sister's hair wasn't the same copper as Hayden's, but instead was a bob dyed black with green stripes, and she had a scar under one of her eyes, but she seemed instantly likeable. Despite the fact she'd just claimed they were dating. Which was in no way true. Something she'd just said struck him like a brick through his tired — and now embarrassed — brain's fog.
"Wait, you guys remember things?"
"It's a school policy. Siblings in the same school reclaim all memories of each other. When you graduate you get all of them back, though." Vesper explained. "I'll graduate end of this year. I've been here 3 years already, you get used to it. Make new memories to replace your old ones, as some put it. Don't worry, Eijeh Ignis."
"How do you know my name? This is kind of freaking me out."
"My gift. I can see certain things about others. It's pretty cool."
Hayden nodded xyr head. "It's hard to keep secrets sometimes though. She's special, had her gift unlocked since she was 5. It's very rare."
"Yeah well special describes me pretty well. I'm amazing. Like, 60% of the time." She laughed again, before something drew her focus from further in the crowd. "Well, I should probably go. It was nice seeing you guys. And meeting Budget Dracula. Have fun and I'll see you when I see you." She nodded at the two of them and disappeared into the crowd. Hayden started talking, but all Eijeh could think was 4 years? I have to get all our memories back before then. I'm not waiting that long. And why not admit it, if only to himself? This place is hiding something.
