When he woke up, he couldn't remember where he was. Then it all came flooding back to him. The letter, the fire, the announcement, the memory blank...He froze, listening as the intercom crackled to life above him once more. "Good morning, students. Class starts in 15 minutes. Your doors will be unlocked then. Please be ready by that time. Uniform is in the closet on the far side of your room. Oh, and please take any items you wish to keep with you. You will not be returning to these rooms. Especially seeing as room 407 has been burnt rather badly during the Unlocking, and we give everyone almost exactly the same treatment. Goodbye, and I will see you in the auditorium for the welcoming ceremony." Principal Kaizeh's voice shut off, just like it had the day before. Eijeh glanced somewhat guiltily at the walls of his room, covered in scorch marks. It was a safe bet that he was in room 407. Oops. But if they were moving anyway, it didn't really matter. He ran towards the chest and pulled open first the top drawer, then the second, lips pursing guiltily as he took in the scorch marks.

A few minutes later, Eijeh Ignis was ready for action, standing before the full-body mirror. He grinned slightly as he drank in the boy in the mirror. His hair was a deep brown and incredibly messy, and a mole lay under his left eye, a grey colour that almost appeared to have had the life sucked from it, compared to the amber of his right. And as for the uniform... Wow. That was the only way Eijeh could describe his uniform. He'd thought it would be something boring and hideously normal, but no. There was a crisp white shirt with black trousers and black shoes and socks. There was also a long, tailed coat, which was blood-red. He loved it. He jumped when a bell went. It wasn't really a bell sound though. More of a chorus of different notes, and although the sound didn't really fit, it made sense. The perfect thing for this school.

"Where is she? Principal Kaizeh. We've been waiting for 20 minutes." Eijeh muttered.
A kid next to him with vampire-pale skin and red hair tied up simply turned to him. "It's actually only been 18 minutes and 42 seconds." But the tone was light, teasing.
"Yeah, well, it's felt longer. A whole 2 minutes longer." He grinned. "Who do you think you are, anyway, to be correcting me? You don't even know who I am." He was teasing, too, now. He couldn't help but be drawn to this kid.
"Hayden D'Arque. Your friendly neighbourhood gender fluid kid. For now, it's xe/xem. You?" Xyr smile became slightly strained, as if worried he wouldn't accept xem.
Eijeh grinned back. "Well, Hayden, I'm Eijeh Ignis. He/him. Its a pleasure to meet you." Hayden grinned, a full grin.
"Ignis means fire, right? Are you by any chance that kid in room 407? What's your power? Wait, let me guess: Fire? But what type? Is it like, you can shoot fire bolts, or- OH MY GOD DO YOU HAVE LAZER EYES?!" Xe yelled excitedly.
He laughed. "Hayden, what the hell do lazer eyes have to do with fire?"
Eijeh's new best friend grinned sheepishly. "I dunno, but it's cool."
"True enough." He agreed, "But no. I don't have lazer eyes. From what I can figure, I can turn my hands into human torches, but that's about it. What about you?"
"Well...We both use our hands. Look." Xe focused and a small orb of light appeared, floating above xyr pale hands. "What do you think? I can make more, but it makes me really tired. Hopefully I'll get to a point where that doesn't happen. I'm so excited!"
He started to respond, but Hayden shushed him. "Look!" Xe whispered. "There she is! Oh my god this is so exciting!" Now it was my turn to shush the excitable kid, but he was grinning too. All thoughts of missing memories were banished from his mind. This was just the start.
