The Graduation Ceremony was apparently bigger than last years. I was struggling to find Haylie and Malcolm because I didn't want to walk around alone. I found Em and waved for her to come over and help me put on my grad gown and hat but I noticed she was walking rather slow. As I changed my perception on Em and turned to view the crowd around me trying to get ready, Penelope was walking towards me. "Thanks Emma," I mumbled to myself. I had about five seconds to decide whether to turn around and walk away or just talk to her. I moved past in a different direction and walked towards Emma.

"Why" I stated.

"Because even though you're semi ugly, you can still get with her. And I can tell you want to get with her so get with her."

I looked around ignoring her.

"Get with her" She pushed me back into the crowd. Which really pissed me off because everything was about to start and I was standing around with no mirror to put on this stupid hat.

I got pushed into Penelope which by the way she looked really frustrated with my existence but I could tell she was trying her hardest to be nice.

"Uhh... Can you help me with putting this hat on?" I stuttered which made me really upset with myself. I was normally okay with talking to girls, girls like her. "Like her," there were no girls like her. I created her own category because there was something so much more to the prom queen. She wasn't all looks. One night I was looking for George Orwell's 1984 for a book report for english class at the library. Penelope was skimming bookshelves. I watched her touch my favourite book only to make my heart skip a beat. She touched almost every spine of every book and took out a novel with no cover. She opened it for a few minutes and then her boyfriend showed up. He pushed her against the bookcase and madeout with her. I don't know why I watched, and no I wasn't a pervert. Sometimes I wish she didn't enjoy it, that she yelled at him so I could step in but she loved him. I watched her book fall down hitting the ground.

"Let's get out of here," He said to her.

She listened to him and when she left I picked up her book. I put it back without reading the title and only knowing it missed it's cover.

"You look handsome" She said.

"Maybe but you look better than anyone in here."

She blushed and so did I. We were interrupted by a lady telling everyone to line up. I didn't say a word to penelope, she just nodded and I left. The graduation ceremony went well and I hadn't seen her for weeks but I broke up with Erica after prom anyways. Erica cried that night a lot, I tried to comfort her and let her know I was still there for her. That nine months was a lot so I wasn't really going anywhere but that too had changed.

One night Emma and I got tired of the usual friday nights we always had. We got tired of Chinese food too which was strange cause for four years straight it was what got us through the five days of school before our night. She told me her mom always goes down to a cafe downtown that just opened and I told her I was open to it. The odder part was that we decided to walk downtown, something Emma and I would never result to. And as we walked into the cafe, we realized it was karaoke night. I was down for it as long as no one from school was in here and Em said she would do it under those regulations too.

I was feeling gutsy as I grabbed the mic, telling the woman to play me some Gwen Stefani. It was all going great until I turned my head slightly to the left to see Penelope behind the counter staring at me, who knew she worked here right? I couldn't stop because I knew it would be too obvious so I continued swaying my head like a moron to get Emma to notice who was here but she was too stupid to understand. Once I finished, I told Emma only to get her to say, "That's it we're leaving."

"I'm not playing for the prom queen" "Do you know how judgy girls like her are?"

"She laughed while I sang, I don't think she's that bad."

"She laughed because you suck."

"Okay, I'm not that bad don't go there."

She didn't insult me any further but I didn't want to go back in there either.

"Thai food and some random German film?" she asked.
