Maddison woke up with a start, her breathing labored and her heart racing uncomfortably fast against her rib cage. She sat up with her hand against her chest and tried to steady her breathing, but found that it did not help.
With fear in her clouded eyes she stumbled to the small bathroom, only to find that she wasn't in her and Heathers shared room.
"Hey, hey, hey. Calm down, Maddison." She heard a familiar voice call out to her, her vision was blurred due to the tears of panic that were gathering in her eyes. But, then she felt the person hold her shoulders in their strong grip while she felt her knees buckle underneath her, he followed suit and held her against him.
"Woah, easy there."
She started to mumble incoherent words under her breath that did not even make sense to herself, "Lilly needs to have her breakfast, Heather was going to compete in panic. What did I do? I can't adopt my sweet girl, I'm to young, they say that I'm to young. Can you help me? I can take good care of her, I promise, I've always taken care of them both. I d-don't understand why I can't adopt her, I'm her mother, no, I'm her sister. I-I don't know anymore..."
The guy held her hands to his own chest that was beating wildly, yet softer then hers. Is he wasn't gonna get her heart rate under control she would go into cardiac arrest, "I can't help you, if you don't calm down."
Maddison nodded her head but panicked even more, "Don't tell them, please. Don't tell them that I get anxiety attacks, they will keep her away from me and throw me in a mental institution. Oh god, oh god, I-I can't breathe." She fell against him while trying to get air in her lungs, "I need Luke..." she mumbled into the guy's shirt who stiffened underneath her just a second.
He was silent for a moment while she continued to mumble, "Hey, listen to me, okay? If you don't calm down, whose gonna take care of them? You need to calm down, if not for yourself then for them."
"I-I can't!" Her voice ringing in the silence, "How can I, I-I can—"
Before Maddison could finish her sentence the guy had grabbed her by the back of her neck and tilted her head up to his before pressing his lips against her own, his other hand was on the side of her neck where he could feel her heartbeat through the palm of his hand.
He usually wasn't one to comfort people but seeing her like this broke a piece in him, the girl that always took care of others while forgetting herself.
Maddison couldn't help but melt into the kiss, her hands placed themselves on the guy's cheeks. It lasted just a minute longer, when they pulled away from each other, her eyes stayed close for a moment longer, scared of the judgement she would see.
