I hadn’t told Evelyn about what had happened earlier this week. She would only freak out and say something to mom and dad and they would then start in about how I don’t want to be a secretary for the rest of my life and all this other stuff about what I could be doing better with my life. “Like teaching students like Evelyn.” She’s not the favorite, they never did that with us but they just didn’t like that I had decided to go to college after high school and get a degree in administration and then find out later my college was actually a place that never really had a very high reputation when it came to getting jobs. So my degree was basically a piece of paper that stated I had completed two years of college and that I know stuff but whether or not I’m credible is a liability on the company’s part. I digress.

My weekend was just about on its way. Lunch was going to be arriving shortly and I had made plans with Justin for lunch and we were going to try some new restaurant that had just opened. It was a pretty productive day considering all my work was done well before they were expected to be put in the system. All I had left to do was finish my solitaire game and hopefully beat this one finally, and then it was time for lunch.

My computer pings letting me know there was an update to my schedule and Justin’s head pops over again. “Please do not tell me it’s going to cancel our lunch.” He says. So I click on the tab and open up the schedule to see that at 5pm tonight, way before I even leave, I was to attend a dinner meeting with David. “Whew, that’s a relief.” Justin says and I look up at him.

“Yeah, for now and then the time actually comes and I’m stuck in a Mercedes with him for who knows how long, and then I have to listen to him discuss business propositions while I get to take notes on a stupid tablet that doesn’t even want to work half the time.” I sigh and shake my head. “Tonight is going to be a huge disaster.” I tell him and he just shrugs.

“Who knows, babe. Maybe it won’t be as bad. Maybe one of the corporate hot shots has a secret fetish for secretaries.” He wiggles his eyebrows and I can’t help but laugh.

“Oh, what if one of them is secretly into bondage and wants me to sign a contract to become his submissive lover.” I say and wink.

Justin shakes his head and tries to hide his laughter. “Girl, you really need to stop reading those erotic novels. They are poison to your fantasies.” He teases and blows me a kiss before sitting back down in his chair. I just laugh to myself and finish my game of solitaire.

Lunch was finally here so we left and when we arrived they seated us immediately and handed us our menus. It was a nice little Greek place that was actually decently priced. Though after my first paycheck I really didn’t have much to worry about because for the first time in my life I actually had money left over after bills.

Justin starts talking about a salad he saw on the right side of the menu and looks up but stops talking. “What? What’s wrong?” I ask and he just glances back at me.

“Don’t turn around.” He says and I furrow my brows. “Just trust me. Oh, they’re walking over here.”

“Who’s they?” I ask but I get my answer just after my question comes out. David, as well as a few other executives from the office walk past us and are seated at a booth a few down and opposite us. I swallow hard as I watch wait for one of the men sit down and he takes a seat next to him, then the other two sit facing him. He doesn’t smile or make any expression, but his eyes are on me. I turn to Justin and just smile. “I’m going to pretend he’s not here.” I say without really moving my lips.
